Teachers, parents and authorities joined hands to clean up mud and dirt, clean classrooms after the flood, and soon stabilize teaching and learning conditions. |
The recent heavy rains caused by storm No. 11 have caused heavy damage to the Thai Nguyen education sector in terms of infrastructure. Statistics show that the whole province has about 180 educational establishments affected by floods, with total estimated damage of over 180 billion VND.
Many schools were deeply flooded, equipment, books, and property were swept away or severely damaged. Immediately after the water receded, the affected schools quickly organized general cleaning, disinfection, and repair of facilities with the cooperation of staff, teachers, parents, and volunteer organizations.
After the disaster, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with all levels and sectors to review the damage and propose funding to support the repair and renovation of severely damaged schools. In addition, communication and propaganda on disaster risk prevention skills continued to be strengthened to improve the response capacity of teachers and students.
The recent historic flood is a clear warning about the impact of natural disasters. From here, the lesson of proactive disaster prevention and control in educational institutions becomes urgent. From those damages, the education sector also draws profound lessons about preparation, response and recovery after natural disasters.
Therefore, the Education sector is developing a long-term plan for disaster prevention and control at schools, focusing on the following contents: upgrading facilities at high-risk schools, relocating schools from landslide and flash flood areas; increasing disaster prevention drills and strengthening local early warning systems; checking drainage systems, strengthening facilities, and developing plans to relocate assets when necessary.
Mr. Dam Ngoc Hung, Head of the Organization and Administration Department (Department of Education and Training), said: The Department has asked schools to closely monitor weather developments, develop specific response plans, and pay special attention to ensuring absolute safety for students, staff, and teachers.
Reality shows that building safe schools is not only the task of the education sector, but requires the cooperation of the whole society to protect students, the future buds, from increasingly complex climate change.
