Putin praises Russian soldiers in New Year's speech 2024

The speech was broadcast just before New Year's Eve 2024. "To all those who are on combat positions, at the forefront of the struggle for truth and justice: You are our heroes, our hearts go out to you," Mr. Putin declared.

“We have proven more than once that we can solve the most difficult problems and will never retreat, because no force can divide us,” Mr. Putin added.

Also in his speech, President Putin described Russia and its people as united, supportive and "resolute in defending our national interests, freedom and security as well as our values".

“Working for the common good unites society. We are united in thought, in work and in combat, on weekdays and holidays, demonstrating the most important traits of the Russian people – solidarity, humanity and courage,” he said.

The Russian president's address to the Kremlin is a traditional New Year's Eve event. But there have been exceptions. Last year, he spoke from the Southern Military District headquarters in Rostov-on-Don. On December 31, 2013, he spoke from Khabarovsk, where he met with victims of flooding there.
