Quang Tri: Heavy rain causes flooding and landslides in some mountainous areas

(Chinhphu.vn) - From the night of October 15 to the morning of October 16, in Quang Tri province, there was moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain, causing localized flooding and landslides on some mountainous traffic routes.

Some mountain roads were damaged by landslides.

On the morning of October 16, the Quang Tri Province Civil Defense Command said that the total rainfall in the past 24 hours (from 10:00 a.m. on October 15 to 10:00 a.m. on October 16) was generally from 10-70 mm, with some places experiencing very heavy rain, such as La To Hydropower Plant (Ta Rut Commune, Dakrong) 201 mm, Huc (Khe Sanh) 130 mm, Ba Nang (Dakrong) 130 mm, Huong Loc (Tan Lap) 95 mm.

Currently, water levels on rivers are still below alert level 1, however heavy rain has flooded some traffic routes and residential areas.

In Khe Sanh commune, heavy rains caused the Van Ri culvert (Km 1+700, Provincial Road 587), the spillways in Ruong and Xa Re villages to be flooded, causing temporary isolation. Some areas, such as Van Ri and Huc Thuong villages, experienced flooding and small floods, while Provincial Road 587 had some small landslides.

Install barriers and warning signs at flooded and landslide areas

In Dakrong, Da Do spillway (Ra Lay village) and Chan Ro spillway (Chan Ro village) were flooded from 0.3-0.5 m. In Ba Long commune, the main spillway of the commune was flooded about 0.4 m; in Ta Rut commune, La To, Huc Nghi, and Ta Rut 1 spillways were flooded 0.3-0.4 m.

Faced with the above situation, Khe Sanh commune authorities proactively evacuated 10 households with 46 people in Huc Thuong village to a safe place.

Regarding the safety of lakes and dams, irrigation works in the province are still operating safely. The total water capacity of reservoirs managed by the Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited is about 84.83% of the designed capacity.

Localities and management units have completed the work of reviewing, inspecting, repairing and restoring minor damages, ensuring construction safety before the 2025 flood season.

Currently, the local authorities are promptly implementing measures to respond to heavy rains. Units and forces have deployed guards, installed barriers and warning signs at flooded and landslide-prone areas, and prepared plans to evacuate people in case of complicated situations.
