Ronaldo choked up as he bid farewell to Diogo Jota

Cristiano Ronaldo, who played alongside Diogo Jota in the Portuguese national team, shared a black and white photo of Jota on social media with an emotional tribute:

"That's ridiculous. Just now we were together on the national team, just now you got married...

My condolences to his family, his wife and his children, and I wish them strength. I know he will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you."

Diogo Jota (28 years old) and his brother André died in a car accident on Thursday morning in Zamora, Spain. According to initial information, the Portuguese striker was on his way back to England after being advised by doctors not to fly due to lung surgery.

Jota's sudden passing has left the global football community in grief and mourning. Tributes have poured in for Jota.

Jota's parent club, Liverpool, described his passing as an "unimaginable loss" in an emotional statement. The Merseyside club's statement read:

"Liverpool Football Club is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Diogo Jota. The club has been informed that the 28-year-old has passed away following a car crash in Spain… Liverpool Football Club will be making no further comment at this time and asks that the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff be respected as they come to terms with this unimaginable loss. We will continue to offer them all our support."

Diogo Jota has been a key part of Liverpool since joining the club in 2020. He is also an integral member of the Portuguese national team, having played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in many major tournaments. His departure leaves a huge void in the hearts of fans and teammates.
