Y Ty terraced fields in the pouring water season are as beautiful as a painting.

Y Ty's flood season starts from the beginning of May to the end of June every year, and the best time to see the fields filled with sparkling water is the second half of May.

Photographer Nguyen Khanh Vu Khoa (HCMC) recently traveled to Y Ty (Lao Cai) at the end of May to take photos of the flooding season. He said that this year, the “aftershocks” from the 2024 Yagi storm are still numerous, with landslides and narrow roads that are still very difficult to travel on, and muddy and slippery conditions on rainy days.

The terraced fields in Y Ty cover an area of over 1,000 hectares, located mainly at an altitude of over 2,500 meters above sea level. Due to the soil and climate, people can only cultivate one rice crop per year. In April, when it rains, the plowing season begins, in May, water is poured for planting, in August, the rice gradually ripens and in September, it will be harvested.

Y Ty is a highland commune in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. Tourists traveling from Hanoi must take a bus to Lao Cai and then take another bus to Y Ty or rent a motorbike in Lao Cai city to travel by themselves. Not only the golden season with the fragrant smell of ripe rice attracts tourists to Y Ty, this place is also a cloud paradise, the starting point of many mountain climbing routes and the magically beautiful pouring water season.

Tourists from all over come to Y Ty, especially amateur and professional photographers, are fascinated by the colors of the sky and earth in May. The terraced fields are filled with water, sparkling like a mirror.
