In the majestic Northwest mountains and forests, Mung hamlet with its fresh, clean natural landscape, brilliant flower seasons and unique Muong cultural identity is striving to become a bright spot in community tourism , a destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
The rough gem is being awakened
Xom Mung is a village of Muong people, at an altitude of over 600m above sea level.
Here, the weather is cool all year round, the landscape is wild with old forests covering, terraced fields winding and gentle hillsides. People's lives mainly depend on cultivating corn, cassava, rice or exploiting forest products.
Since 2021, Mung hamlet has begun its journey of innovation when the local government stepped in and oriented to build the hamlet into an attractive destination of Cao Phong district, former Hoa Binh province, now Cao Phong commune, Phu Tho province.
Flowers are grown on terraced fields after harvest, hillsides, and roads in the village, making this place a "flower paradise" blooming all year round.
In the spring, nearly 500 cherry blossom trees bloom simultaneously, dyeing the whole hamlet pink; in the summer, this beautiful land is brilliant with colorful butterflies; in late autumn and early winter, wild sunflowers bloom bright yellow on both sides of the road leading to the hamlet. With these "flower fields", Mung hamlet has become a meeting place for young people, photographers and tourists from everywhere.

Ms. Duong Diem Quynh (tourist from Hanoi ) said: “The first time I came here, I found the landscape more beautiful than I imagined. Flowers bloomed brightly, the climate was cool, Muong food was delicious and rich. I will definitely come back with my friends.”
In addition to the advantage of terraced fields, Mung hamlet also owns 520 hectares of strictly protected natural forest. This is a precious “green lung” that helps the climate become fresher and cooler, suitable for developing eco-tourism, trekking, and picnicking.
Following the route to Mung hamlet, visitors can visit many other tourist attractions in Cao Phong commune such as Dragon Head Mountain, Vietnam Scientists Heritage Park and especially visitors cannot miss enjoying Cao Phong oranges - a famous agricultural product of this beautiful land.
From a highland village, Mung hamlet is gradually becoming a prominent community tourism destination.
The harmonious combination of landscape exploitation, cultural identity preservation, economic development and environmental protection has opened a new direction for the Muong people in Cao Phong.
Tourism associated with preserving cultural identity
Not only the landscape, Mung hamlet also attracts tourists by the indigenous culture of the Muong people.
Since 2023, the old Hop Phong commune, now Cao Phong commune, has officially built a community-ecological tourism model in Mung hamlet, attracting investors to build homestays and experience services.
A series of accommodation facilities have been built such as Mung Retreat Glamping, Nha Tim Homestay, Thung May Wellness Retreat. These homestays are designed to be both modern and close to nature, with attractive landscapes.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, owner of Thung May Wellness Retreat, shared: The beautiful and fresh nature and the unique Muong culture of Mung hamlet made him decide to open a homestay here. He hopes to bring visitors experiences about the space, landscape and Muong culture as well as help create jobs for people and develop the local economy.
Visitors to Xom Mung will have the opportunity to admire the sea of clouds in every fresh morning, visit orange gardens, enjoy Cao Phong oranges in the garden, experience staying in stilt houses, and enjoy local cuisine such as hill chicken, local pigs, bitter bamboo shoots, and sticky rice.
In the evening, visitors can join campfires, bamboo dances, watch gong performances with the Muong people... In addition, homestays also have many other services such as: Organizing team building, trekking, learning about local culture, so it is suitable for families, groups of young people and nature lovers.
According to Ms. Nguyen Linh Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho province, the culture of Muong Thanh region with beautiful natural landscapes, ancient stilt house architecture, gong activities, folk songs, cuisine, costumes, etc. are invaluable values for developing various types of tourism.
However, the locality needs to improve the quality of infrastructure and services such as completing traffic, investing in high-quality accommodation facilities, diversifying experiential services; promoting the building of the community tourism brand of Mung hamlet through promoting the image, connecting tours with other tourist destinations of Phu Tho province and the Northwest region.
Chairman of Cao Phong commune Hoang Minh Hieu said: Mung hamlet has a strong Muong Thanh cultural identity with over 98% of Muong people living there.
In the new development space, Cao Phong commune authorities are determined to build and attract investment to turn Mung hamlet into a community tourism destination that attracts visitors to the landscape, culture and people of the ancient Muong Thang land, gradually improving people's lives, both preserving cultural identity and orienting the development of green and sustainable tourism economy.
In the future, with the joint efforts of Cao Phong commune government, businesses and people, Mung hamlet promises to become a "golden destination", contributing significantly to the sustainable socio-economic development of Phu Tho province./.
