The gong beats happily
In 2023, hundreds of actors and artisans from 12 communes and towns across Phuoc Son district gathered at the Bh'noong Traditional Cultural Festival.
A festival space opens with traditional rituals that are elaborately recreated, along with folk games, culinary performances, sculptures, promotion of local products, street parades...
Kham Duc town is perhaps rarely as bustling as this, with an event organized on a large scale within the district. The attraction of traditional culture comes from the brocade colors that fill the streets.
The sound of drums and gongs did not stop during the event days. And especially, many tourists returned to the highlands, joining in the fun of the people to enjoy the party of sounds and colors, of dances, typical rituals and cuisine.

From Thang Binh district, Mr. Phan Van Toan went up to Phuoc Son, immersing himself for the first time in the bustling atmosphere of the Bh'noong festival.
“There were very young children who had mastered the traditional dances during the parade. It felt like everyone came to have fun, to immerse themselves in the game of their own people, free from the element of performance. The atmosphere of the festival clearly could not be “recreated”, but was created from the excitement and joy of everyone” - Mr. Toan shared.
Over the past years, a series of solutions to unite the community and preserve the Bhnong ethnic identity have been implemented by local authorities.
The second return of the Bh'noong traditional cultural festival in Phuoc Son district in 2023 is a clear demonstration of that effort.

The serious and methodical investment of each commune-level unit at the festival shows the determination to bring Tet out of the framework of a small community, from villages, from schools to larger communities, confidently introducing the distinct and unique colors of traditional culture of ethnic groups in the Phuoc Son highlands.
Preserving identity
Culture will be a “specialty” on Phuoc Son’s tourism map. That is an expectation that has been seeded from many activities revolving around the goal of preserving, maintaining and promoting indigenous culture.
According to Mr. Do Hoai Xoan - Vice Chairman of Phuoc Son District People's Committee, preserving cultural identity is to demonstrate the role of "ambassador" of the land. That viewpoint is realized through many policies and guidelines that contribute to making local tourism more attractive, considering the formation of a new livelihood.

“Recently, festivals have been an opportunity to stimulate consumption, helping people in the highlands make and sell special products with higher value. The government has also made efforts to connect travel agencies and the culture, sports and tourism sector to sit together and discuss the necessary conditions to create specific tourism products, new tours and routes to attract tourists.
Accommodation services in Kham Duc are developing, some locations have great potential for eco-tourism, historical sites... will partly meet the needs of travel agencies to bring tourists to Phuoc Son together" - Mr. Xoan said.
Multiplying the beauty and honoring traditional values, Phuoc Son district also focuses on promoting and eliminating old and outdated customs and practices. From the grassroots level, village and commune-level festivals are still maintained, such as the hundred-rice offering ceremony and the drum procession to the village...
Preserving culture is first done in each village, right from the place where people live and multiplied by efforts to promote and raise the level through district and inter-district festivals...
“In the coming time, Phuoc Son will still maintain the priority viewpoint of preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the Bh'noong ethnic group and some other ethnic groups living in the district. The story of developing tourism from culture will be taken into account with more methodical and fundamental solutions,” Mr. Xoan emphasized.
