Ms. Nguyen Hoai Thu (Cau Giay, Hanoi ) has 2 billion VND in spare money but does not know whether to deposit it in the bank to get interest or invest it.

“If I invest, I don’t know whether I should buy real estate like land, apartments, or stocks, bonds, or gold? Which investment channel is both safe and profitable in the future? Or should I invest a little bit of everything?”, Ms. Thu wondered.

Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Executive Director of the Faculty of Finance - Banking, Nguyen Trai University (NTU), said that Ms. Thu should allocate her investment portfolio according to the "golden formula" 40-20-20-10-10 to both preserve capital and take advantage of opportunities to increase the value of money.

Specifically, according to experts, out of 2 billion VND, 40% (ie 800 million VND) should be used to deposit in the bank. This is an indispensable choice, especially for those who prioritize safety.

“Depositing money in the bank is the least risky investment channel, helping to preserve capital value. Current interest rates range from 5.5-6.5%/year, providing a stable source of passive income,” said Mr. Huy.

According to experts, when making a deposit, you need to choose a large, reputable bank with good financial health. At the same time, you need to allocate capital into many terms such as short-term (3-6 months) to ensure liquidity, long-term (12 months) to optimize interest rates. Or you can prioritize online savings to receive higher interest rates and save transaction time.

Regarding the corporate bond channel, Mr. Huy suggested that 20% (ie 400 million VND) should be used for investment. Bonds are a bridge between safety and higher profits, experts believe that this is an ideal investment channel to increase passive income.

Further analysis, Mr. Huy said, the bond interest rate is from 8-12%/year, much higher than bank savings. Moreover, the principal is repaid upon maturity, suitable for those who want to ensure safety.

However, he noted that it is necessary to choose corporate bonds that are leading in the industry, financially transparent and listed on the stock exchange; have a history of regular interest payments, and high liquidity. Priority can be given to the technology industry, renewable energy, transport infrastructure, and industrial real estate.

Along with that, you should spend 20% or 400 million VND of your idle money to invest in stocks. But you need to select 3-5 stocks with good growth potential and regularly update economic information and financial reports to adjust your portfolio in time.

“Some key sectors when choosing stocks are technology, renewable energy, transport infrastructure, industrial real estate, affordable housing... ”, Mr. Huy suggested.

For gold investment channel, the expert recommends spending 10% which is 200 million VND because this is a channel with stable value, less affected by financial market fluctuations; easy to buy, sell and store.

However, it is necessary to choose SJC gold bars to ensure liquidity. Besides, closely monitor the world and domestic gold prices to buy when the price is adjusted down.

Mr. Huy also suggested that the remaining 10% should be spent on investing in capacity building and expanding relationships to have more new business and investment opportunities.

“With 2 billion VND in idle capital, combining safe investment channels such as savings and bonds with high-profit potential channels such as stocks and gold is the ideal strategy. Do not put all your eggs in one basket, but allocate assets appropriately to reduce risks and increase investment efficiency.

Only invest in financial products and businesses that are transparent and have strong financial potential. Always monitor the market to adjust strategies in time. In particular, you need to be patient and disciplined because successful investing does not come from luck but from the right mindset and perseverance with long-term goals," Mr. Huy emphasized.
