The Brazilian government, as the guarantor of the peace talks, expressed satisfaction with the prospects of the talks, and congratulated both sides on the “success” of the seven-day meeting in Caracas, Venezuela.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry welcomed “the reaching of agreements to overcome violence and build a sustainable and lasting peace in Colombia.”

The ELN has proposed a “new negotiating model” to overcome the current paralysis. The two sides agreed to meet again between November 19 and 25 to try to push forward peace talks.

In a joint statement on social network X the same day, the Colombian government and ELN affirmed that they had “frankly and deeply” considered the importance of peace negotiations with this country. Both sides agreed to overcome the crisis factors and do everything necessary to achieve maximum progress in negotiations in the next 20 months.

The delegations have not met in more than five months and have not held a dialogue cycle in nine months. The ceasefire that ended on August 3 was also not extended by the Colombian government.
