Vietnam – Russia promote close and effective cooperation at the United Nations and multilateral forums

On October 9 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang received Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko. At the meeting, the two sides had in-depth discussions on Vietnam-Russia cooperation within the framework of the United Nations (UN) and multilateral forums, as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern.

Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to promote the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, including close and effective cooperation at the United Nations and multilateral forums.

The Deputy Minister highly appreciated Russia's role and stance at the UN, and stressed that Vietnam is ready to closely coordinate with Russia to protect the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, promote multilateralism and strengthen the central role of the UN in global governance and handling global challenges.

Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang asked Russia to support Vietnam in its role as Chair of the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), affirming that Vietnam will undertake this important role in the spirit of balance, objectivity, transparency, as well as consult, listen and reconcile the interests of all regions, countries and relevant parties, especially the permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5), thereby contributing to promoting dialogue, strengthening the non-proliferation mechanism and moving towards the goal of comprehensive nuclear disarmament.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister also thanked Russia for supporting Vietnam in hosting the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime, which will take place in Hanoi ; at the same time, he hoped that Russia would continue to coordinate and actively contribute to the success of the event, thereby contributing to the common efforts of the international community in preventing and combating cybercrime and ensuring global cyber security.

For his part, Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko highly appreciated Vietnam's proactive and responsible role at the UN, contributing to maintaining peace , cooperation and development in the regions and the world. On this occasion, the Russian Ambassador thanked Vietnam for its support for Russia's initiatives and efforts at multilateral forums; and expressed his wish that the two countries would increase exchanges, coordinate positions and support each other at UN agencies and other international organizations.

The Ambassador affirmed that Russia considers Vietnam an important partner in the Southeast Asian region, and will continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam in promoting joint initiatives and strengthening the role of the UN in global governance.

The two sides agreed to maintain a regular exchange mechanism and continue close coordination in other areas of mutual interest.
