According to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hai Phong city), this year's crop year, the whole city planted nearly 81,000 hectares of rice. The rice fields in the city are growing well. In particular, the early rice fields are in the stage of heading and flowering; the middle rice fields are standing and forming panicles; the late rice fields are entering the period of intensive tillering and standing.
Through field inspection, some pests and diseases that are harmful to rice such as the 5th generation of small leaf rollers, sheath blight, rice blast, and bacterial leaf blight have been detected. It is forecasted that in the coming days, the 6th generation of small leaf roller larvae will hatch and cause damage to rice at the heading stage from mid-September onwards. Rice blast, leaf blight, and bacterial leaf spot are harmful to susceptible varieties at the heading stage. Planthoppers appear and cause damage sporadically.
To proactively prevent and control pests and diseases from arising and causing harm, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection requests that Plant Protection Stations closely coordinate with the Economic Departments, Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Departments of communes, wards and special zones in directing crop production and plant protection. Assign staff to closely monitor the fields, investigate and monitor the growth of rice crops and the situation of harmful organisms to promptly guide localities to organize prevention and control to ensure safety and effectiveness.
