Scarlett Johansson condemns deepfake AI, calls for urgent legislation

(CLO) Famous actress Scarlett Johansson called for laws to protect the public from artificial intelligence (AI) after a deepfake video featuring her and many other stars appeared on social media.

The spoof video shows Johansson wearing a T-shirt with a hand raising the middle finger, a Star of David (a common symbol of Judaism and Israel) and Kanye West's name. While not real, the video implies that she and other stars are responding to West's recent anti-Semitic comments and actions.

"I am a Jewish woman with zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or any form of hate speech. But I also believe that the misuse of AI to spread hate is a bigger threat than any individual responsible for it. We must condemn the misuse of AI, regardless of its message, or we risk losing sight of the truth," Johansson stressed.

She went on to warn about the dangers of AI: "I am a public victim of AI, but the truth is that this technology affects everyone. A huge wave of AI is coming, and while some countries have responded responsibly, the US has yet to take any drastic action. It is frightening that the government is not taking action to protect people from the obvious dangers of AI."

The fake video also includes AI images of Adam Levine, Mila Kunis, Lenny Kravitz, Mark Zuckerberg, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Stiller, Natalie Portman, David Schwimmer and many other stars, accompanied by the Jewish folk song "Hava Nagila" in the background.

Johansson has long been one of the most vocal artists about the misuse of AI, previously fighting against a synthetic voice that sounded "very similar" to her being used on an AI platform without her permission.

In her latest statement, she called on the US government to take legislative action to control AI: "I urge the government to prioritize passing laws to limit AI. This is a bipartisan issue that directly affects the future of humanity."

The above AI video was created by someone who claims to be an AI expert. Even though it is labeled as AI-generated content, it is still misleading and attracts a large number of viewers.
