Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requests clarification of male student's death at Ba Ria General Hospital

In response to media reports about a male student who was involved in a traffic accident and did not receive timely emergency care at Ba Ria General Hospital, on October 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health issued an urgent document requesting the hospital to promptly report the entire process of receiving, diagnosing, handling and monitoring the patient.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health directed the Director of Ba Ria General Hospital to urgently establish a Professional Council to comprehensively evaluate the process of receiving, rescuing and treating patients in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment. The report must be sent to the Department of Health before October 24, 2025.

Along with that, the Department of Health requested the hospital's Board of Directors and the social work department to coordinate with relevant departments and offices to proactively visit, share, and encourage the families of deceased patients, demonstrating the humanitarian spirit, responsibility, and openness of the health sector.

Previously, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health decided to establish an inspection team led by a Department leader to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the operations of Ba Ria General Hospital. The inspection is expected to last one month, starting from October 20, 2025.

The objective of the inspection is to evaluate and point out the shortcomings and limitations in medical examination and treatment; at the same time, identify the root causes in order to have measures and solutions to overcome and improve the quality of service to the people.

In addition, according to the plan, the Department of Health will establish a Working Group led by a Deputy Director of the Department who will directly direct activities to strengthen hospital administration, improve professional capacity, and orient the comprehensive development of Ba Ria Hospital in the coming time.
