MR. HA VY, DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF DEPARTMENT OF CULTURE, SPORTS AND TOURISM:
Application of heritage management technology
In recent years, the two localities of Quang Nam and Da Nang city (old) have done a very good job of preserving and promoting the potential and values of cultural heritage in general and the system of relics in particular, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development. However, the process of preserving and restoring relics also has some obstacles, especially the potential risks from the increasingly complex impacts of climate change.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is directing relevant units to develop and submit to the City People's Committee the Project "Preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values of Da Nang city for the period 2026 - 2030" to orient the overall tasks and solutions in the context of the new administrative unit, ensuring consistency with the Law on Cultural Heritage 2024. Organize a general inventory of the entire system of relics in the area, closely assess the current situation, and serve as a scientific basis for proposing appropriate solutions for management, protection, restoration and promotion of relic values...
In particular, in the current climate change situation, promoting the application of science and technology and digital transformation in heritage management is very important. The Department will build a unified digital database on cultural heritage in Da Nang city, integrating data from the two old localities, ensuring compatibility. Applying digital technology in the work of documenting, inventorying, displaying, propagating and promoting heritage. Focusing on completing the "Digital Map of Da Nang Heritage" to serve the management, protection of relics and promotion of heritage images associated with sustainable tourism development.
MR. PHAM PHU NGOC, DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF HOI AN WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE CONSERVATION CENTER:
Strong support mechanism needed to preserve Hoi An Ancient Town
Hoi An Ancient Town is located downstream of Thu Bon River, so it faces natural disasters every year. Therefore, we regularly coordinate with local authorities and people to strengthen inspection and support of relics, minimizing the impacts of natural disasters and climate change on ancient buildings.

Currently, in the old quarter, there are about 30 relics in a state of disrepair, with the potential risk of collapse, despite having been reinforced and supported over many years. Among these relics, most do not have clear legal documents on ownership and usage rights, leading to investment in restoration and embellishment with State support funds and relic owners facing many difficulties in implementing due to lack of funding.
To ensure the originality and integrity of the heritage, and to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the old town, we have also requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to report to the City People's Committee for a unified policy on implementing the urgent restoration of relics at risk of collapse in the old town, with 100% state funding to sustainably preserve Hoi An Ancient Town.
MR. NGUYEN CONG KHIET, DEPUTY DIRECTOR IN CHARGE OF MY SON WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE MANAGEMENT BOARD:
Planting forests to protect My Son Temple Complex
With brick and stone architectural materials that have existed for hundreds of years, but in general, the resistance of the temples and towers at My Son is quite good against the impact of natural disasters and storms and floods. However, the impact of climate change has made the temperature in My Son valley high, the high humidity for a long time has affected the brick and mortar blocks, causing loss of connection, even eroding some details of brick wall patterns...

Therefore, the unit has always proactively built the work of protecting and responding to the impacts of climate change on relics every year through the synchronous implementation of solutions corresponding to the weather conditions of the dry season as well as the rainy and stormy season.
Specifically, the unit regularly checks and supports relics at risk of collapse, cleans weeds on the tower body, clears and plants trees in the Khe The stream area to limit flooding of relics, especially greening bare hills in the permitted area of My Son heritage landscape forest, preventing erosion and landslides affecting the temples and towers. Up to now, on average, we plant about 1 hectare of native trees each year.
In addition, the unit also established a shock team with 30 members who are on duty to prevent storms and floods during the rainy season and monitor and prevent forest fires during the summer. With proactive solutions as well as technical and financial support from domestic and international agencies and organizations, My Son will be well preserved and protected, minimizing the impact of climate change.
