The book, originally titled “An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations,” often shortened to “The Wealth of Nations,” had a profound influence on the history of economic thought.
This book was first published in 1776 and quickly became a milestone in the formation of classical economics. The author, Scottish philosopher and economist Adam Smith, not only proposed a new system of economic theory but also provided a comprehensive view of the origin of prosperity, the role of the market, the state and society in the development process.

The book was published as Europe was entering the Industrial Revolution, with the advent of machines, factories and new methods of production.
Adam Smith looked at economic life and asked the question: what is the real source of prosperity? The book gives the answer: Prosperity comes from the ability to produce and exchange goods, based on human labor.

Author Adam Smith (1723-1790) was a prominent Scottish moral philosopher and economist, considered the father of modern economics.
