On the afternoon of October 18, T1 and GenG met for the 10th time this year. The two teams are familiar opponents from the domestic LCK tournament to international events such as MSI or the League of Legends World Finals. In the past season, the Korean champions were the regular winners. They defeated T1 in 7/9 of the most recent meetings.
The two teams met early in the third round of the Swiss format. T1 lost to CFO (Taiwan) on Thursday, while GenG lost to AL. The draw brought the two Korean representatives together again on October 18. Here, Faker and his teammates played as the 2025 LCK champions. T1 showed a weak performance, with no bright spots in the 30 minutes of the match.
With a favorable lineup, GenG easily dominated the lane, accumulating advantages to enter the fight. In particular, Chovy, the mid laner, dominated Faker, excelling in the soldier index, leading to more equipment and having more impact in the fight.

The turning point of the match came in the third dragon fight, when GenG's support player Duro decided the game by using the Judgement Herald skill to hit T1's Oner. The black and yellow team swept 4 opponents, leaving only one kill. After that, T1 continuously tried to fight to regain the advantage. However, the more they fought, the more they lost.
GenG was too cautious and tight in every move, not giving their opponents any chance. After 28 minutes of play, T1's main base exploded, ending one of the quickest games of the tournament. In addition to losing to their arch-rivals, T1 also showed weakness by not being able to show much throughout the match.
Thus, the reigning world champion has lost to GenG 8/10 matches since the beginning of the year. The 2 times T1 won were BO3 matches in the LCK and LCK Cup group stages, which did not mean much.
Losing this match, T1 was pushed down to the 1:2 bracket. They have to win at least 2 more matches to get a ticket to the top 8. This journey is not easy for Faker and his teammates as many Chinese and Korean teams are still waiting.
Also on October 18, Vietnam’s representative Team Secret Whales lost to North American representative FlyQuest. Thus, the team has a similar record and is facing the possibility of meeting T1 in the next round.
The 2025 League of Legends World Championship will take place from October 14 to November 9 in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, China. This will be the third time the country has hosted the event after 2017 and 2020.
