According to a VNA reporter in Beijing, since the resumption of operations on May 25, the cross-border passenger traffic on the Vietnam-China international train route has been continuously increasing, with the total passenger volume reaching more than 8,000; in August alone, the cross-border passenger volume reached nearly 2,700, an increase of 89% over the previous month, thereby contributing to promoting travel between people, economic cooperation, trade and people-to-people exchanges between the two neighboring countries.
Vietnam and China have a close relationship, both geographically and culturally. In recent years, economic cooperation, trade and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have become increasingly close, with cross-border travel between people on both sides becoming more frequent. Therefore, at the end of May, the railway industry of the two countries restored the operation of the Vietnam-China international passenger train route.
The international passenger train between Nanning Station (China) and Gia Lam Station (Vietnam) departs in the evening and arrives the next morning, fully equipped with soft sleeper cars. This helps save on accommodation costs and shortens travel time, especially suitable for both business travelers and tourists .
For Mr. Tong Kien Huy - a Chinese cross-border businessman who has several partners in Vietnam and needs to travel frequently between the two countries, this intermodal train route is the preferred travel option.
“If I leave Nanning in the morning and go through Friendship Pass to Hanoi , Vietnam, I will lose the whole day and cannot do anything. If I take the connecting train, I can arrive the next morning and start working immediately. It is very convenient,” said Mr. Tong Kien Huy.
For Vietnamese students studying at schools in China, especially in Guangxi, taking the China-Vietnam international train is also the choice of many people because of its convenience and the ability to save time and money.
The resumption of international passenger trains between China and Vietnam has significantly facilitated trade and tourism activities between the two countries, contributing to further strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
According to statistics, in the first 8 months of this year, China-Vietnam intermodal trains departing from Guangxi (China) transported 24,000 standard export cargo containers, an increase of 179% over the same period last year.
More than 20,000 tons of fruits from ASEAN countries such as durian, mangosteen, and jackfruit have been imported through the Pingxiang railway border gate, contributing to enriching the "fruit basket" of Chinese people.
To better serve cross-border passengers, the Nanning Bureau of China National Railway Corporation has launched a Chinese-Vietnamese bilingual radio program on trains and organized in-depth training on Vietnamese, English and passenger services for train staff.
Thanks to that, the ship’s staff are fluent in both Chinese and Vietnamese. They not only communicate fluently with Vietnamese passengers but also understand the customs of both countries, becoming “cultural ambassadors” on the ship.
Lan Thu Suong, head of the China-Vietnam international passenger train, said that since the China-Vietnam international passenger train route was resumed, cross-border passenger transport activities have become increasingly bustling.
The passengers are mainly business, tourism and study travelers, with Chinese and Vietnamese passengers accounting for a large proportion. In addition, the ship also carries passengers from more than 30 countries, including Myanmar, Thailand and Italy, becoming a bridge of friendly exchange between China and other countries./.
