According to GadgetMatch , although there is still no news about Elden Ring 's 'Shadow of the Erdtree' expansion, there has been an interesting development about FromSoftware's hit action RPG. Specifically, Chinese tech giant Tencent is said to be developing a free-to-play mobile version of Elden Ring .

Elden Ring has won many major awards and is worthy of the title of the best game of 2022. This game has brought FromSoftware's signature 'hardcore' gameplay to a wider audience. In response to the love of fans, the developer has officially announced the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which has made the community restless, but the release date has not been revealed yet. While waiting for the expansion to release, Tencent seems to be developing their own version.

Tencent is reportedly developing a mobile version of Elden Ring

According to Reuters, Tencent is adapting the game to better suit mobile gamers. However, instead of a full platform port, Tencent's version is said to be free-to-play and will feature in-app purchases.

If this news is accurate, Tencent's version will be a huge departure from the original. Elden Ring offers the entire gaming experience for the price of the game. In contrast, Tencent's version, like other titles in the genre, will lock content behind multiple layers of paywalls.

Tencent acquired the rights to the title in 2022. While development on a mobile version has been going on for quite some time, the company is known for licensing existing intellectual properties and creating mobile versions of them. The two most prominent examples are PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile .
