The organizing committee of the Bui Xuan Phai Award - For the Love of Hanoi has just announced the list of nominations before the official award ceremony which will take place on the evening of October 3 in Hanoi.
Accordingly, nominations for three categories have been announced: Idea Award nomination, Work Award nomination, and Work Award nomination.
As for the Grand Prize category, in recent award seasons, each year only one person is selected to receive the award, instead of selecting many nominees like in the early years, so the winner is announced at the award ceremony.
Regarding the list of nominations, the Work award has three nominations: Initial revival of To Lich River; National Exhibition Fair Center - a new "wonder" in Hanoi, a construction miracle in Vietnam; The restoration of two outdoor reliefs on Hang Long Street (Cua Nam Ward, Hanoi).
There are also 3 nominations for the Idea Award, including: A series of projects to renovate and expand the space for the community around Hoan Kiem Lake, with the bold decision to demolish the Shark Jaw building; A series of activities to honor Confucianism, towards the 950th anniversary of Quoc Tu Giam (1076 - 2026); Project to build the Hanoi Opera House and a cultural and artistic park in Quang An (Tay Ho ward).
There are 4 nominations for the Work award: A series of lacquer paintings by artist Chu Nhat Quang in the exhibitions "Sacred Marks" and "Independence Spring"; A series of paintings about Hanoi by artist Pham Binh Chuong in 20 years of "Going to the Street"; Book "Hanoi Architecture - Vietnamese - French Cultural Exchange" (Tran Quoc Bao, The Gioi Publishing House); Musical "Fire from the Earth" (Vietnam Youth Theater).
Among these nominations, some projects that have received public attention include: the project to demolish the Shark Jaw building, renovate the space around Hoan Kiem Lake, build an opera house at West Lake, and initially revive the To Lich River...
In the Bui Xuan Phai Awards, the most anticipated award is the Grand Prize. Up to now, 16 Grand Prizes have been awarded to: Hanoi scholar Nguyen Vinh Phuc (2009), writer To Hoai (2010), Professor Phan Huy Le (2011), guitarist Van Vuong (2012), photographer Quang Phung (2013), researcher Vu Tuan San (2014), researcher Giang Quan- (2015);
And photographer Le Vuong (2016), researcher Huu Ngoc (2017), researcher Nguyen Ba Dam (2018), researcher Nguyen Thua Hy (2019), musician Phu Quang (2020), musician Hong Dang (2021), director Tran Van Thuy (2022), director Dang Nhat Minh (2023) and most recently, architect Hoang Dao Kinh (2024).
