Release two rare monkeys into the wild

QTO - Today, October 22, information from Dakrong Forest Protection Department said that the unit has just coordinated with the People's Committee of Huong Hiep commune to release two rare monkeys into the natural environment.

On October 21, Mr. Le Van Trung, in Khe Ha village, Huong Hiep commune, discovered two monkeys straying into his garden and filed a report with the People's Committee of Huong Hiep commune.

After receiving the information, the Commune People's Committee directed specialized agencies to coordinate with Dakrong Forest Protection Department to receive and temporarily care for the two monkeys. Through inspection and verification, it was found that the two monkeys included a red-faced monkey ( scientific name is Macaca arctoides) weighing 4.6 kg and a pig-tailed monkey (scientific name is Macaca leonina) weighing 3.5 kg.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, an officer of Dakrong Forest Protection Department, said that according to Circular No. 27/2025/TT-BNNMT dated June 24, 2025 of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment regulating the management of endangered, precious and rare species; raising common animals and implementing the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, both monkeys belong to group IIB - endangered, precious and rare wild animals. After receiving them, the unit coordinated with the People's Committee of Huong Hiep commune to complete the procedures, ensuring the conditions for releasing these two rare monkeys into the natural environment in accordance with the law.

"Mr. Le Van Trung's voluntary reporting and handover demonstrates the high sense of responsibility of the people in nature conservation and wildlife protection, actively contributing to forest protection in the area," said Mr. Phu.
