Anthony Hudson is the new coach of the Thai team. |
On the afternoon of October 22, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced that Mr. Anthony Hudson will take over the position of head coach of the national team. He replaces Japanese strategist Masatada Ishii, who just left the position on October 21.
Mr. Hudson, 44 years old, is a British coach who once held the position of Technical Director of FAT. The decision to appoint him is considered by experts to be a reasonable step, as Hudson has worked in Thailand and understands the Southeast Asian football environment.
Previously, Mr. Hudson led BG Pathum United, helping the team achieve a winning rate of over 58%. This achievement is considered an important foundation to help him gain the trust of FAT.
On the international stage, Hudson led the New Zealand team to the play-off round for a ticket to the 2018 World Cup, and also had a period as interim coach of the US team from 2022 to 2023. His experience working at both club and national team levels is expected to help him quickly integrate and shape the style of the "War Elephants".
According to the plan, Mr. Hudson will have his debut match when Thailand plays a friendly match with Singapore on November 13. Then, the team will travel to Sri Lanka on November 18 in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The final qualifying match against Turkmenistan at home on March 31, 2026, is seen as the first important test for Mr. Hudson.
