Compiled close to reality

According to Ms. Vo Thi Doan Trang - Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Thang Binh District Party Committee, the compilation of teaching materials on local history and culture in Thang Binh district was started at the end of 2021, on the basis of implementing Directive No. 20 of the 12th Party Central Committee Secretariat on "Continuing to strengthen and improve the quality of research, compilation, propaganda and education on Party history".

Initially, the locality developed a plan to compile documents for both primary and secondary schools. However, after comparing with the local education program issued by the Department of Education and Training of Quang Nam , many contents were different from the original orientation. Since then, Thang Binh district has proactively adjusted in a synchronous direction with the education sector, helping teachers to be more convenient in implementing teaching.

The document consists of 109 pages, divided into 3 large chapters, covering contents from natural geography, population characteristics, patriotic traditions, revolutionary struggles, to political - social life and cultural identity of Thang Binh people through the periods.

This is not a simple summary of administrative history, but the result of a process of research and deliberate selection; at the same time, it combines educational and indigenous cultural elements, aiming at the ability to apply in teaching practice.

“In addition to the official document set, the editorial board also designed a set of photo documents, illustrative data and cited reference sources to help teachers have access to multi-dimensional information, thereby flexibly organizing teaching activities suitable for each group of students.

During the compilation process, the editorial board members were all experienced professionals, including leaders of the Department of Education and Training, cultural and propaganda specialists, and dedicated teachers at the grassroots level," said Ms. Trang.

Not only choosing accurate and objective content, the editorial team also focuses on expressing cultural and historical values in a vivid and familiar way. For example, traditions such as the Ba Cho Duoc festival, Binh Duong mat weaving, village communal house relics, historical figures such as Mr. Tieu La, the patriotic movement associated with the place name An Thai or the journey of building new rural communes of commune-level localities are all emphasized.

Spread to the younger generation

Before publishing, the appraisal of the historical and cultural teaching materials of Thang Binh district was directed by the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee. The appraisal council contributed many critical comments and in-depth edits on the layout, information, sources, semantics and expression...

In the spirit of learning, the editorial board has seriously absorbed the comments, reviewed the entire structure and completed the document at the highest level possible, to be ready for teaching from the 2025-2026 school year.

The materials will be flexibly deployed according to each level of education. For primary school, local cultural and historical content is integrated into subjects and extracurricular activities.

For secondary school level, the materials are divided into 7 topics including: traditional history; natural geography; culture - religion; economics and career guidance; lifestyle - civilization; politics - society; environment. There are a total of 35 teaching periods/school year, arranged as a supplementary subject to the main curriculum, with separate lesson plans and test and assessment records like other subjects.

Teacher Le Cao Lan - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thang Binh district said that the role of teachers is central in the process of teaching this material.

Providing additional sources of images and extended quotes allows teachers to be creative in their teaching methods. This is also the basis for educating students' historical thinking ability and love of homeland more effectively.

According to the plan, after one year of teaching implementation, the (new) commune-level administrative unit will conduct a survey and collect comments from schools to supplement and complete the documents.

Editing and updating will also be assigned to the commune level because they are the ones who understand the local cultural and historical context best. This is an appropriate step to ensure that the documents are always close to local reality and have the ability to be expanded and supplemented over time.

“The greatest value of this set of documents does not stop at knowledge, but in the ability to evoke feelings, awareness of preserving and continuing the traditions of the homeland. Therefore, teaching students to understand and be proud of the land they live on is a solid foundation for them to grow up with a full cultural foundation,” said Mr. Lan.
