TPO - The circulation of storm No. 10 caused floodwaters from upstream to rush in, inundating many schools in Nghe An province.

On October 3, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of Nghe An Department of Education and Training said that heavy rains and whirlwinds caused by storm No. 10 caused great damage to the school system. Preliminary statistics show that 45 schools were flooded, 18 schools suffered landslides, 131 schools had corrugated iron roofs of classrooms and functional rooms blown off, 91 schools had tiled roofs blown off, 85 schools had collapsed fences, 110 schools had some items collapsed or had their garage roofs blown off; estimated damage was more than 300 billion VND.
The storm's circulation caused prolonged heavy rain, causing floodwaters from upstream to pour in, submerging many schools in the area.
Cao Son Kindergarten (Yen Xuan Commune) was deeply flooded. Ms. Tran Thi Kim Thoa - Principal of the school said that on the morning of September 29, after storm No. 10 made landfall, the area had prolonged heavy rain, rising floodwaters caused deep flooding. "Storm No. 10 caused the roof of the teachers' parking area to be blown off, and the desks, chairs, and offices of staff and employees to be soaked and damaged. Some tables and outdoor game equipment were also blown away by the storm wind," Ms. Thoa shared.
Muddy floodwaters surrounded the school grounds.
Tan Ky 3 High School (Tan An Commune) was also deeply flooded since September 29, and only yesterday (October 2) did the water gradually recede. The school mobilized teachers and students to clean up with the spirit of "where the water recedes, there is hygiene". Many parents also volunteered to clean up and overcome the consequences of storm No. 10.
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Hai - Principal of Tan Ky 3 High School said: "Floodwater flooded almost the entire first floor. Although the school had previously raised equipment and property, the floodwater rose so quickly that all the tables and chairs on the first floor were damaged. In addition, 3 televisions and 2 sets of speakers were also damaged by water. The school is currently actively cleaning up, and it is expected that students will return to school next Monday (October 6), " Mr. Hai informed.
Tan An Secondary School (Tan An Commune) was also deeply flooded. The floodwaters receded, and tables, chairs, furniture, and equipment in the classrooms were all damaged.
After the flood receded, hundreds of cadres, soldiers, and youth union members of Nghe An promptly supported schools in cleaning classrooms and school grounds.
