The school affirms transparent enrollment
According to the school, on September 30, after announcing the results of the 2025 doctoral entrance exam, information appeared on social networks saying that "there were problems in the admission process".
The incident was quickly shared widely on many social networking sites and some electronic news sites. According to the school, some speculative content, combined with reporting from many different perspectives, has affected the reputation of the school and created negative public opinion.
After receiving the above information, the school established a working group to review the entire 2025 doctoral admission process. The 2025-2026 graduate admissions council also met to specifically consider the case of candidate Au Nhat Huy.

The school said that the announcement of doctoral admission in 2025 was issued on time, publicly on the website according to current regulations, ensuring full eligibility for the exam. A total of 31 candidates took the exam in 4 majors: Surgery (9), Pediatrics (4), Internal Medicine (15) and Otolaryngology (3).
Candidates submit their applications online and in person from July 28 to August 15. The working group has checked the applications and found that the determination of admission requirements (degrees, foreign language certificates, scientific works) was carried out in accordance with regulations.
The process of admission, thesis defense and scoring takes place according to plan, with minutes of the Admissions Council meeting and the scoring list being made public and transparent.
Candidate Au Nhat Huy had his score lowered.
Through inspection, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine confirmed that candidate Au Nhat Huy (born in 2001) was admitted according to the correct procedure, had valid documents at the time of admission and passed the exam according to the regulations.
According to the school's regulations, if a staff member or lecturer has a relative participating in the admissions process, they will not be allowed to participate in any exam council. In this case, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Khanh Tuong - mother of candidate Au Nhat Huy - did not participate in any activities of this year's postgraduate admissions. This ensures the principle of eliminating conflicts of interest according to the current regulations on admissions and doctoral training.
Regarding the scientific articles that candidates submit in their application, all must be published in journals included in the List of Scientific Journals with Points in 2025 according to Decision 26/QD-HDGSNN dated July 11, 2025. Candidates must meet the criteria of "having research experience demonstrated through a master's thesis or published scientific articles and reports", according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training as well as the school's regulations.
At the time of application, the candidate has 8 articles: 5 articles published in domestic journals (ranked 0-1 points according to the State Council of Professors 2025) and 3 articles published in international journals listed in Scopus.
Based on 8 articles, the total score converted for the candidate's research experience is 11 points. However, according to the regulations, the maximum score (ceiling) for this item is only 10 points. This score is used by the professional subcommittee to calculate the total score, bringing the candidate's average total score to 88.8 points.
Afterwards, the school received a notice from the lead author of the international article “Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients: Insights From Vietnam” (Chronic Obstr Pulm Dis. 2025 Jul 25;12(4):294-303.) - one of the articles submitted by Huy - stating that the article had been withdrawn from the journal.
Therefore, the conversion score for the candidate's research experience with the remaining 7 articles is reduced to 9.5 points. The Admissions Council unanimously adjusted the average total score from 88.8 to 88.3.
The school affirmed that this adjustment will not affect the admission results of candidate Au Nhat Huy in the 2025 doctoral entrance exam.
