Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Le Phuc Nguyen, former Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, Deputy Head of the People's Army Newspaper's Traditional Liaison Committee, expressed that there was a coincidence that the birthday of Major General and journalist Tran Cong Man coincided with the day the People's Army Newspaper published its first issue; he was born in 1925, also the year leader Nguyen Ai Quoc founded Thanh Nien Newspaper, giving birth to Vietnam's revolutionary journalism.

Lieutenant General Le Phuc Nguyen quoted General Vo Nguyen Giap: "With more than a third of a century of journalism, comrade Tran Cong Man was both a person in charge of the Army press agency with a strong will and a sharp, prestigious journalist."

Before working at the People's Army Newspaper, comrade Tran Cong Man was a political officer, experienced many different positions, through practical command and combat in units and participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. According to Lieutenant General Le Phuc Nguyen, 25 years working at the People's Army Newspaper (1964-1989), holding the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief and then Editor-in-Chief, journalist Tran Cong Man has demonstrated his talent as a leader, press manager and a sharp, sensitive pen, with many journalistic works on many genres, many hot current topics, in many fields, resonated in public opinion, convincing to domestic and international readers.

The journalistic works he left behind are still highly appreciated by readers and journalism researchers today. In particular, the content he mentioned in his works as well as his analytical talent, vision and ability to forecast remain hot today. These are the issues: Criticism of bureaucracy, arrogance, and authoritarianism; the situation of seeking positions, power, and personal gain; the issue of international integration, integration but not dissolution; the issue of developing a socialist-oriented market economy ; issues of Party building, personnel work...

“For generations of journalists of the People's Army Newspaper, Major General and journalist Tran Cong Man was not only an exemplary commander, but also a teacher, a brother, and a colleague who was very principled and very humane. He was an example of persistent work, creativity, dedication to his profession, always full of intelligence, the ability to respond courageously and especially the ability to persuade others. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Major General and journalist Tran Cong Man, let us look back at the precious legacies he left for posterity. It was a shining example of a sincere, simple, close life and the love he had for his family, friends, comrades, teammates, and students. It was a glorious journalism career with many outstanding marks of dedication and creativity,” Lieutenant General Le Phuc Nguyen affirmed.

Sharing at the meeting, Major General Phan Khac Hai, former Deputy Minister of Culture and Information, former Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, Head of the People's Army Newspaper's Traditional Liaison Committee, said that Major General and journalist Tran Cong Man is a person with personality, courage and is very strict. “The first time I met journalist Tran Cong Man, I was a bit scared because of his strictness. But then, the feeling of fear turned to respect for his talent and virtue. He is one of the two "big trees" of the People's Army Newspaper and the Vietnamese press (alongside journalist Nguyen Dinh Uoc). I was lucky to have him share his management experience and journalism experience during that period.”

For journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, he was fortunate to spend 10 years working under Editor-in-Chief Tran Cong Man at the People's Army Newspaper.

“When sending articles to Editor-in-Chief Tran Cong Man for approval, the first thing he asked was, “Is there anything new?” This is the hardest thing for journalists. He encouraged us that, for journalists, new means new information, new issues, new ways of expression, new phrasing. At that time, when we reporters sent articles to the Editor-in-Chief, we would secretly look through the window to see him approve. If Mr. Man signed “M”, we were very happy because the article would definitely be published; and if he approved “Okay”, we were extremely excited because he praised us. Major General and journalist Tran Cong Man has made a very valuable contribution to the history of the People's Army Newspaper,” journalist Ho Quang Loi shared.

Before joining the People's Army Newspaper, comrade Tran Cong Man worked for many years in the Engineering Corps. Major General Dinh Ngoc Tuong, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the Engineering Corps, emphasized: “The years of working in the engineering force have tempered and instilled in comrade Tran Cong Man the discipline and mettle of a political officer with a lot of practical experience, forming a close working style, rich in comradeship and teamwork. During the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, in the position of Political Commissar of the 151st Engineering Regiment, comrade Tran Cong Man and other cadres always stuck close to the formation and the battlefield. In the position of Secretary of the School Committee and Director of the Engineering Branch, comrade Tran Cong Man was directly involved in the task of training engineering cadres, making an important contribution together with the School Committee and the Board of Directors of the Branch to lay the first foundation bricks for the tradition of "Teaching well, studying well, training well, being ready to fight" of the Engineering Officer School today".

Journalist Tran Cong Man has left a deep mark in the history of the People's Army Newspaper and the Vietnamese revolutionary press. In him, people find a blend of steadfast political will and sharp journalistic thinking, between an uncompromising fighting spirit and a simple, sincere personality.

Under his leadership, the People's Army Newspaper became one of the leading political newspapers of the country: both sharp and humane; both fighting and spreading faith and humanity. Hundreds of writers he mentored have grown up, many of whom later became leaders and prestigious journalists, continuing to write the golden history of the newspaper called the People's Army", Colonel Le Ngoc Long emphasized.
