Japanese Prime Minister pledges to promote economic cooperation with ASEAN

On December 16, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida pledged to cooperate with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to promote each side's economic growth, through promoting investment and people-to-people exchanges.

The Japanese leader made the statement while hosting a reception to welcome heads of ASEAN delegations attending the ASEAN-Japan Summit in Tokyo. According to Kyodo news agency, at this event, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also announced the launch of a new initiative on developing the next-generation automobile manufacturing industry. This initiative will aim to outline strategies to help ASEAN continue to maintain its position as the "factory" for automobile production and export in the world. Mr. Fumio Kishida also called on ASEAN member countries to join hands in economic development, aiming to establish peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
In order to further promote cooperation with ASEAN, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that Japan will increase the implementation of exchange and communication activities between young leaders of economic groups of this country and countries in the region. The Summit to celebrate 50 years of ASEAN-Japan relations will take place from December 16-18 in Tokyo. This is an important occasion to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two sides.
