Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed to reward the village chief who rescued more than 90 people from the flood.

On August 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed to commend the actions of Village Chief Mua A Thi who saved more than 90 people in time to evacuate before the flood hit.

Heavy rain, risk of flash floods and landslides in Dien Bien and Son La

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and encouraged people affected by floods in Dien Bien.

Earlier in the early morning of August 1, a serious flash flood and landslide hit Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province. The flash flood and rocks swept down, submerging the entire area.

That night, 26-year-old village chief Mua A Thi bravely rushed into the flood, called for people to flee, carried the elderly on his back, and saved the entire Hang Pu Xi village from disaster. Thanks to timely warnings and decisive actions of village chief Mua A Thi, more than 90 people in the dangerous area escaped the flash flood disaster.

In response to the brave and decisive action of Chief Mua A Thi (Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and the People's Committee of Dien Bien province to report immediately on August 4, submitting to competent authorities to commend the brave, decisive, daring and responsible actions of Chief Mua A Thi, who saved more than 90 people of Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province from the disaster of flash floods and landslides.

The Prime Minister requested all levels and sectors to learn from the brave and selfless example of Chief Mua A Thi for the community; and press and media agencies to spread good deeds for the lives and peaceful and happy lives of the people.

Many houses in Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune collapsed after a flash flood.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of the provinces to conduct a review of all schools, hospitals, and medical stations in areas affected by the recent floods, and report to the Prime Minister on August 5, 2025, on repair and recovery plans, ensuring treatment for people and education for children preparing for the new school year.
