Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attends the closing ceremony of the main span of My Thuan 2 Bridge

NDO - On the afternoon of October 14, during his working trip to Can Tho, Vinh Long and Tra Vinh , Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the ceremony to close the main span of My Thuan 2 Bridge , connecting the two banks of Tien Giang and Vinh Long, jointly organized by the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committees of Vinh Long and Tien Giang provinces.

The My Thuan 2 Bridge and approach roads construction project is one of 12 component projects of the North-South Eastern Expressway in the 2017-2020 period, invested by Project Management Board 7. This is a national key project, a special-grade road traffic project with a total investment of VND 5,003,064 billion from the state budget. The My Thuan 2 Bridge project is located on the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City, connecting the two expressways Trung Luong - My Thuan and My Thuan - Can Tho, connecting the two provinces of Vinh Long and Tien Giang, which is a vital road with the largest traffic volume among the main national highways in the region. The main span with a cable-stayed structure with a span of 350m, a clearance of 37.5m, a bridge deck width of 28m (including 6 lanes) was the first time completely implemented by a team of Vietnamese engineers and workers from the project planning, design to construction. The project started on March 16, 2020 and will be put into operation at the end of 2023. The project was implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the double impact of political fluctuations in the world causing high fuel prices and increasing material prices (iron, steel, stone, cement, ...) has affected the construction work. On the other hand, the objective technical difficulties in the construction of the complex items of the main bridge, the weather conditions significantly affecting the construction techniques of the girder and cable-stayed systems, all of the above factors have posed many challenges to Project Management Board 7, the consulting unit and the construction contractor. With the strong and regular direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, as well as the support and close coordination of central and local ministries and branches; at the same time, synchronous solutions to overcome difficulties have been implemented as well as the efforts of the advisory agencies of the Ministry of Transport, Project Management Board 7, consulting units, construction contractors, My Thuan 2 Bridge has met all the conditions for closing, ensuring the geometric parameters of the main cable-stayed span, construction quality requirements, labor safety, etc.

After the closing, the Ministry of Transport continues to direct Project Management Board 7 together with consulting units and construction contractors to promote the highest sense of responsibility, focus on completing the remaining items to open the project to traffic by the end of 2023, ensuring the quality of the project and promoting the highest investment efficiency. After completion, My Thuan 2 Bridge will connect the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho, creating a close connection between the Southern economic and commercial center and the provinces of the Mekong Delta, contributing to the completion of the transportation and logistics system in the region, while reducing the increasing traffic pressure on the existing My Thuan Bridge and National Highway 1A, meeting the increasing demand for freight and passenger transportation, creating conditions to promote economic growth, cultural and social development in the Southwest region.

Inspecting the site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, relevant ministries, branches, investors, relevant units, and the two provinces of Vinh Long and Tien Giang in overcoming all difficulties and challenges on many fronts, implementing the construction of My Thuan 2 Bridge 3 months ahead of schedule, shortening the progress compared to the construction of My Thuan 1 Bridge. On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the Prime Minister commended the great efforts of ministries, branches, and localities to create a Vietnamese bridge from design, capital allocation to construction implementation. Ministries, branches, localities, and the entire political system demonstrated a high sense of responsibility and a desire to develop the country into a strong and prosperous one, demonstrated through the stages of design, site clearance, construction, ensuring progress, quality, and technical aesthetics. At the ceremony, the Prime Minister and other leaders performed the closing ceremony of My Thuan 2 Bridge. Next, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and presented gifts to engineers and workers constructing the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway in Vinh Long city, Vinh Long province.
