On October 2, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam had a working session with Acting Deputy Minister of Education of Australia Karen Sandercock at the Embassy headquarters.
At the meeting, Acting Deputy Minister Karen Sandercock highly appreciated the results of educational cooperation between Australia and Vietnam in recent times.
Acknowledging and thanking the Embassy for its support and coordination with the Australian Ministry of Education in promoting educational cooperation between the two countries, including the activities of RMIT University in Vietnam, Acting Deputy Minister Karen Sandercock updated the Australian government 's new policies for international students, including raising the international student enrolment ceiling by an additional 250,000 by 2026.
Ms. Karen Sandercock said that Vietnam is always a priority focus of the Australian Government and international education sector. Accordingly, Australian Minister for Education Jason Clare is expected to visit Vietnam in late 2025. The visit will focus on exchanging and sharing experiences in the field of higher education, employment opportunities for students as well as vocational training and developing cross-border education models.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam congratulated Ms. Karen Sandercock on her recent appointment as Acting Deputy Minister of Education in Australia.
Emphasizing that education and training has always been one of the six pillars in bilateral cooperation since the two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam shared that during the recent visit of Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn to Vietnam, education was also a matter of interest and emphasis.
Based on the proposal of Acting Deputy Minister Karen, the Ambassador provided information on Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo of Vietnam regarding breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation development and Resolution 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo of Vietnam on breakthroughs in education and training development.
Through that, the Ambassador expressed his hope that Vietnam and Australia will create breakthroughs in educational cooperation in the fields of science and technology and human resource development in the coming time.
