On September 23 (local time), within the framework of the High-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Acting Foreign Minister of Vietnam Le Hoai Trung met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong; Minister and Advisor to the President of Nicaragua on International Affairs and Policy Denis Moncada Colindres; and Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.
According to VNA correspondent in New York, at the meeting with Ms. Penny Wong, the two sides affirmed that the Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership is in a good development stage and has many important advances in all fields, from politics , defense, security, economy, education to tourism and people-to-people exchange.
Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasized that the recent State visit of Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn (September 9-12) was an important milestone, contributing to further strengthening strategic trust and deepening bilateral relations.
Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung suggested that the two countries continue to concretize the implementation of agreements and commitments between the two countries, and at the same time study and expand cooperation in the fields of science and technology, innovation, and education and training.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong congratulated Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung on his new position, affirming that Vietnam is Australia's leading important partner in the region.
Ms. Penny Wong expressed her hope that the two sides will continue to cooperate closely to effectively implement the contents of the new partnership, especially in priority areas such as green economy, digital transformation, clean energy and climate change response.
Minister Penny Wong appreciated Vietnam's efforts in promoting the Australia-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and agreed with Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung's proposal to promote cooperation within the framework of ASEAN and Mekong sub-region cooperation.
The two sides also agreed to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, and discuss a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern.
At the meeting with Minister and Advisor to the President of Nicaragua on International Affairs and Policy Denis Moncada Colindres, in an open and sincere atmosphere, the two sides highly appreciated the good development of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Nicaragua in all fields, with increasing political trust.
Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung thanked the Party and State of Nicaragua for sending high-ranking delegations to attend the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification in Ho Chi Minh City (April 2025) and to attend the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and Vietnam's National Day on September 2.
Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the relationship with Nicaragua and congratulates the development achievements that the Sandino National Liberation Front (FSLN), the Government and the People of Nicaragua, under the leadership of President Daniel Ortega, have achieved over time.
The Acting Minister suggested that the two countries continue to promote the positive development momentum of bilateral cooperation in recent times, including through the Party's foreign relations channel.
Minister and Advisor to the President of Nicaragua Denis Moncada Colindres congratulated Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung on his new position and expressed his admiration for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements; thanked the Vietnamese Government for creating favorable conditions for Nicaragua to open an Embassy in Vietnam in June 2024.
Agreeing with the proposals of Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung, Mr. Denis Moncada Colindres hoped that the two countries would continue to promote economic, trade, cultural and educational cooperation. The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation and support each other at multilateral forums such as the United Nations.
On this occasion, Mr. Denis Moncada Colindres announced that the Party and State of Nicaragua will send a high-ranking delegation to attend the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi (October 2025).
At the meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, the two sides reviewed the development of Vietnam-Georgia relations over the past three decades (1992-2025) and agreed that the two countries still have a lot of untapped potential, contributing to bringing the cooperative relationship to a new height.
In that spirit, Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung proposed that the two sides should increase exchanges at all levels, especially at high levels, effectively implement dialogue mechanisms, and at the same time study, negotiate and sign trade cooperation agreements, creating a solid legal framework for businesses of the two countries to access the market and invest in areas of mutual need.
Minister Maka Botchorishvili congratulated Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung on his new position, expressed his admiration for Vietnam's economic achievements and considered Vietnam a potential trade partner in the Southeast Asian region.
Agreeing with the proposals of Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung, the Georgian Foreign Minister emphasized his desire to promote cooperation in areas where Georgia has strengths such as trade, agriculture and tourism. At the same time, the Georgian Foreign Minister said that he is studying and considering opening a Georgian Embassy in Vietnam in the near future.
On this occasion, the two sides also discussed a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern; agreed to strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations./.
