At noon on September 10, Nguyen Thuy Linh defeated her opponent Liang Ting-Yu (Chinese Taipei) - who had defeated her twice - with a score of 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) to advance to round 2 of the Vietnam Open 2025. After the match, Thuy Linh said she had prepared both mentally and tactically to win today.

"Playing at home, with a relaxed mindset and high determination, I won. However, I am not too happy because the road ahead is still long. This is just a stepping stone, a motivation for the next matches" - Thuy Linh shared.

Talking about his goal, Vietnam's No. 1 tennis player affirmed: "I want to keep the cup in Vietnam to give to the audience. This journey is not easy, but I will try my best in each match to aim for the gold medal."

Facing the pressure of being the defending champion, the female tennis player born in 1997 frankly expressed: "I don't feel too much pressure. Sports always have failures and successes. For me, being able to compete at home, in front of a beloved audience instead of on TV, that is the greatest happiness."

At this year's tournament, Vietnamese badminton had many players present, among them Tien Minh, despite being 42 years old, still showed his perseverance, but unfortunately he could not pass the qualifying round. When asked about his senior, Thuy Linh expressed her admiration and expectation: "I really admire Minh for still competing persistently at the age of 42. I hope that in the future he will become a coach to pass on his experience, give more motivation to his juniors, and help Vietnamese badminton reach the top 10, top 5 in the world ."

Closing the conversation, she confided: "I attend nearly 20 tournaments a year, but only play at home once. Therefore, every match in Vietnam, whether I win or lose, is a gift I want to give to the audience. Being able to meet and compete in front of them in person is the greatest happiness."

With the victory this afternoon in the first round of the women's singles, Thuy Linh entered the second round and will meet tennis player Kisona Selvaduray (Malaysia, ranked 77th in the world).
