During his lifetime, Uncle Ho once advised, "Spring is the season for planting trees, making the country more and more green." Following Uncle Ho's teachings, in the first days of the new spring, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the province have made great efforts to compete and launch a tree planting and afforestation movement to bring green to the forests.
On the morning of February 3 (January 6), the Provincial Tree Planting Festival was launched in Tien Yen district. Accordingly, provincial leaders, departments, branches and people participated in planting over 2,000 trees, mainly focusing on planting large timber trees on an area of 2 hectares, in the community forest area of Dong Dinh village, Phong Du commune (Tien Yen district).
In Ba Che district, the tree planting festival was also launched in the spring of At Ty, mobilizing all levels of party committees, authorities, departments, branches, organizations, units, enterprises, cooperatives and people in the area to enthusiastically participate and respond to the tree planting festival in a practical and effective way. Accordingly, on the first day of the campaign, the whole district strived to plant 3 hectares of green giổi trees with about 3,000 trees.
Immediately after the district-level launching program, communes and towns simultaneously launched the Tree Planting Festival at their units on February 4 (January 7). Agencies and units proactively planted trees and shade trees in their campuses, headquarters, and schools, with the goal of planting about 16 hectares. In particular, mobilizing people to respond to the Tree Planting Festival at households through implementing large timber plantation projects, mainly large timber trees: Lim, giổi, and lát.
Mr. Khieu Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of Ba Che District People's Committee, said: In 2025, the district has set a plan to plant about 5,000 hectares of concentrated forests, including 100 hectares of large timber forests. Immediately after the Tree Planting Festival launching ceremony, the district directed units and localities to continue to guide people and strive to complete 50% of the planned target by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thanh, Khe Loong Ngoai village (Thanh Son commune, Ba Che district), said: My family has 10 hectares of acacia trees that were completely destroyed in storm No. 3. Immediately after the storm passed, my family proceeded to harvest, clear the ground cover and prepare the site conditions and seedlings to plant forests in the spring crop of 2025. Accordingly, my family has prepared about 40,000 trees including acacia and cinnamon and strives to replant the entire forest area damaged by the storm by April 30.
Tree Planting Festival has become a great festival, a unique cultural beauty of Vietnam that is preserved and developed by our people. The movement of planting trees, afforestation, and forestry development this year is even more meaningful when the forest coverage rate of Quang Ninh has decreased sharply after the impact of storm No. 3 in September 2024. Right on the first day of spring, localities and units in Quang Ninh province simultaneously organized and launched the Tree Planting Festival, with a total of more than 112,000 newly planted trees, equivalent to 112 hectares.
Mr. Vu Duy Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: In 2025, Quang Ninh province strives to plant over 31,847 hectares of concentrated forests, including 2,724 hectares of protective forests and 29,123 hectares of production forests. This is an unprecedentedly large number, 2.4 times higher than the 2024 forest planting target, demonstrating the province's high determination in developing and restoring forestry production after the storm, raising the forest cover rate to over 42%.
