The 28-year-old star and his younger brother were involved in an accident as their car left the Portugal-Spain border early on July 3. He and Andre Silva were driving to Santander (Spain), where there is a ferry to England. Jota had just undergone surgery to treat a collapsed lung, so doctors advised him not to fly to avoid putting pressure on his lungs. The car's tire burst while accelerating to overtake another car, veered off the road and caught fire.
Jota won the Premier League with Liverpool last season and the Nations League with Portugal last month.
