Finding the cause behind the incident of many train derailments in Thua Thien Hue

Vietnam Railways Corporation has found the cause and found solutions to prevent the train derailments in Thua Thien Hue.

On September 30 and October 1, on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line through the southern section of Phu Loc district (Thua Thien Hue province), especially the section from the south of Thua Luu station to Lang Co station... all trains moved at slow speed.

At Thua Luu station (Phu Loc district), at 11:00 am, the North-South passenger train stopped here to avoid the tourist train going from Da Nang to Hue.

After the Hue - Da Nang tourist train "Journey connecting Central Vietnam heritage" passed Thua Luu station, the North - South passenger train started rolling out of Thua Luu station towards Hue - Da Nang.

North-South passenger trains all run slowly through construction sites in the section passing through Loc Tien commune and the section running west of Lap An lagoon in Lang Co town, Phu Loc district.

The section passing through the west side of Lap An lagoon in the north of Lang Co station, in the Thua Luu - Lang Co area (Lang Co town) is being repaired by Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company.

In addition, the southern section of Luong Dien bridge (Loc Dien commune, Phu Loc district) in the Truoi - Cau Hai area is also under repair.

The reporter repeatedly contacted the leader of Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company - the unit managing the railway line through Thua Thien Hue province, but the director's phone was always "busy".

According to Vietnam Railway Corporation, the unit has organized a working group to survey and find out the cause to prevent it. The working group carefully inspected and evaluated all factors from the road, carriages, equipment on the track... to prevent derailment.

Vietnam Railways Corporation has implemented many solutions to prevent train derailments, initially slowing down trains on railway sections under repair; at the same time, checking vulnerable locations, and promptly organizing repairs in case of any abnormalities.

Previously, Giao Thong Newspaper reported that over the past 2 months, the North-South railway section passing through Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province has had 6 consecutive train derailments, including 4 train car derailments, and on September 28 alone, 2 locomotive derailments occurred.

Then the functional sector determined that due to the resonance of unfavorable factors of the air spring bogie type with large wheel axle distance (2,200mm), when the train runs over a track with a large drum (Tg 0.15, an old type of track) at low speed, the time for the guiding force to increase for a long time causes the guiding wheel to stick to the wheel cheek, causing derailment.

Vietnam Railways Corporation has requested Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company as well as railway joint stock companies to coordinate with railway operating branches to review the turntables with unfavorable factors (large turntables), and propose competent authorities to consider early renovation and replacement.

Railway operating branches, based on the review results, coordinate to develop measures to ensure train safety, and minimize the organization of receiving, sending, and shunting passenger trains with carriages using air spring bogies through the turning direction of the switches with the above technical specifications.
