What is special about the newly announced dual-fire anti-tank system THCT-105TM2 from Vietnam?

The THCT-105TM2 anti-tank system uses modern engineering technology with additional decoy warheads used to neutralize active defense systems on tanks, helping to destroy modern tanks.

Currently, in the Vietnam People's Army, anti-tank guns still play an important role in defense, especially at the infantry level. Traditionally, since the resistance war, our forces have used many types of anti-tank guns provided by the Soviet Union.

To this day, many infantry units are still equipped with improved RPG-7s, along with modern armor-piercing ammunition capable of destroying tanks, armored vehicles, and fortified positions.

In particular, Vietnam's defense industry has now manufactured and produced many types of modern anti-tank guns, serving in training as well as combat readiness missions.

The improvement and production of these weapons helps Vietnamese infantry to be mobile and flexible, and at the same time combine with modern anti-tank missiles to form many layers of anti-mechanized firepower, suitable for modern warfare.

At the recent exhibition of national achievements "80 years of journey of independence - freedom - happiness" (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi ), the General Department of Defense Industry introduced the THCT-105TM2 anti-tank system.

According to published data, THCT-105TM2 weighs 13.8 kg, has a straight firing range (with a target 2 m high) of 200 m, a maximum firing range of 400 m and fires through a 105 mm main barrel and a 42 mm secondary barrel. The complex can fire at tanks with 600 mm thick explosive reactive armor.

The staff at the exhibition area shared that the special feature of the THCT-105TM2 anti-tank system is that it uses modern technology when it has a decoy warhead. This is a warhead used to neutralize active defense systems on tanks. From there, it helps destroy modern tanks.

The officer explained that currently, each type of tank has an active defense system. This system helps the tank detect incoming bullets within 0.5 seconds. Then, the tank will launch a bullet to intercept the attacking bullet.

However, with THCT-105TM2, the decoy warhead will be launched first, causing the enemy tank to activate its active defense system, launching a warhead to destroy it, about 0.15 seconds later, the main warhead will be fired.

At that time, the tank's active defense system did not have time to restart a second time (startup time is 0.5 seconds), leading to its destruction.

According to published data, the main ammunition of THCT-105TM2 is DTC-105TM2. This is a 105 mm ammunition, 1.1 m long, 6.8 kg in weight, capable of penetrating steel when there is explosive reactive armor greater than or equal to 600 mm.
