Summary of project activities "Support to improve maternal and child health in Yen Bai province" sponsored by Val-der-Mare provincial council (France)

Pursuant to the Project Agreement “Support to improve maternal and child health in Yen Bai province” (Vietnam) between the People's Committee of the former Yen Bai province and the Val-de-Marne Provincial Council (France). On September 29, 2025, the Project Management Board of Support to improve maternal and child health in Yen Bai province (former) held a summary of the project activities.

Attending the conference were Dr. Nguyen Song Hao - Deputy Director of the Department of Health - Head of the Project Management Board to Support the Improvement of Maternal and Child Health in Yen Bai Province; representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Center for Disease Control, General Hospital No. 1 of Lao Cai Province, staff of the Regional Health Centers of Luc Yen, Van Yen, Tran Yen, Yen Binh, Mu Cang Chai, Tram Tau, Van Chan, Yen Bai and representatives of Bong Sen Kindergarten, Yen Bai Ward.

The Project to Support the Improvement of Maternal and Child Health in Yen Bai Province will be implemented from November 2023 to the end of September 2025 at health facilities and localities in the former Yen Bai province, focusing on optimizing the operation of medical examination waiting rooms at health facilities and shifting the approach from disease prevention and treatment to improving maternal and child health through providing knowledge and skills in health care for mothers and children.

The project has successfully supported the organization of study tours, learning and experience sharing activities between Yen Bai province (old) and Val-de-Marne province (French Republic); Developed sets of documents and communication support tools suitable for local realities; Trained to improve communication capacity on maternal and child health care for hundreds of grassroots health workers; Purchased equipment and effectively operated 10 friendly waiting rooms at the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Center, Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1, Luc Yen Regional Health Center, Tran Yen, Van Yen, Yen Binh, Yen Bai and 01 physical education area at the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Center, Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1.

After more than two years of implementation, the Project has contributed to raising public awareness of health care and improving the quality of maternal and child health care services. The Project's support activities, especially the friendly waiting room model, are considered to be replicable in many localities.
