Japanese Consul General gives inspirational speech in Vietnamese at graduation ceremony

At the graduation ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages ​​and Information Technology on the morning of October 27, Mr. Ono Masuo, Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, shared his heartfelt thoughts with the school's 1,300 new bachelors and masters.

What is special is that Mr. Ono Masuo spoke and gave messages entirely in Vietnamese.

Mr. Ono Masuo said he was very happy to attend and witness the special ceremony of the new masters and bachelors.

"I understand that, after many years of effort, today you have reached an important turning point, ending your student life and stepping out into society to develop yourself, contribute to your family and society," said Ono Masuo.

According to the Japanese Consul General, there are currently many foreign businesses investing in Vietnam, so he believes that learning a foreign language will be very helpful in work.

"The more you can use a foreign language to directly communicate with foreigners, the more you will understand each other and the work will progress more quickly and smoothly. In addition, I personally think that learning a foreign language helps you broaden your knowledge about the culture and way of thinking of people in that country, contributing to enriching your spiritual life," said Mr. Ono Masuo.

In particular, Mr. Ono Masuo emphasized that the more integration, the more attention must be paid to knowledge about the history and culture of each person's country.

"From today, when you start a business, pursue a research career or work in a business, you will be the representatives of Vietnam to foreigners. I hope you will accumulate basic knowledge including Vietnamese history and culture so that you can proudly introduce Vietnam to foreign partners," Mr. Ono Masuo advised.

Sharing more with Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Mr. Ono Masuo said that this is his 4th working term in Vietnam. Before that, he had a term in the US and a term in Australia.

Every time he goes to a country, Mr. Ono Masuo learns and understands deeply about the history, culture, and people of that country.

The Japanese Consul General said that when communicating in family, society, work or life, a humble attitude and willingness to listen to others are very important.

"When we are humble and listen, we will understand the story and feelings of the other person, and from there we will be able to empathize and be able to say words that have impact. Hopefully, by knowing how to listen, learn and adapt well, young people will find their place in this rapidly changing world ," the Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City shared at the graduation ceremony.
