South Korean President continues to reshuffle cabinet, nominates ministerial personnel

In this reshuffle, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol appointed former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon as Special Advisor on Culture and Sports, equivalent to a Ministerial rank.

Following the Cabinet reshuffle on June 29, on July 6, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced a list of nominees for one minister and six vice ministers.

In this reshuffle, the President appointed former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon as Special Advisor on Culture and Sports, equivalent to a Ministerial rank.

Mr. Yu is expected to serve as an advisor to the President on policy in the fields of culture, sports and arts.

Mr. Yu served as Culture Minister for three years under the Lee Myung-bak government and recently returned to the stage as a drama actor.

Among the six new Vice Minister positions, three were formerly officials of the Ministry of Planning and Finance, namely Lee Hyoung-il, who was appointed as Director of the National Statistics Office, Ko Kwang-hyo, who was appointed as Director General of the General Administration of Customs, and Kim Yoon-sang, who was appointed as Director of the Public Procurement Agency.

The list of new Vice Ministers also includes the positions of Vice Chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, Director of the Saemangeum Investment and Development Agency, and Chairman of the Urban Transport Commission under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Previously, on June 29, President Yoon Suk Yeol reshuffled the cabinet by announcing new names for several Minister and Vice Minister positions.

Mr. Kim Yung-ho - Professor of Political Science and Diplomacy at Sungshin Women's University was appointed as Minister of Unification of Korea .

Meanwhile, Jang Mi-ran - the 2008 Olympic gold medalist in weightlifting - will become Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Kim Hong-il, a lawyer and former chief of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed director of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, a ministerial-level position.

South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Oh Young-ju was appointed as First Vice Foreign Minister, while Ambassador to Thailand Moon Seoung-hyun was appointed as Vice Minister of Unification./.
