Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky complained that Western partners were slow in supplying weapons and not providing enough equipment for the army.

Mr. Zelensky made the above complaint when answering a CNN reporter's question about why Kiev does not have enough weapons after receiving a large aid package from the US and supplies from Europe.

In addition, according to him, during the eight-month suspension of arms transfers when the US Congress could not make a decision on supporting Ukraine, Kiev was forced to use all its reserves.

Since Russia began its special military campaign, Western countries have repeatedly increased arms supplies to Ukraine. Kiev has also repeatedly asked its partners to provide more modern and long-range missiles.

Russia has repeatedly stressed that the West's transfer of weapons to Kiev and support for training the Ukrainian army only prolongs the conflict and does not change the situation on the battlefield.

Also on September 15, speaking at the 20th Yalta European Strategy Conference (YES) in Kiev, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha affirmed that his country needs Polish MiG-29 fighter jets.

However, he noted, the transfer requires the support of the European Union (EU) in patrolling Polish airspace.

“We understand well what our partners have and what solutions are needed,” Sybiha stressed, adding that Kiev expects important decisions during Poland’s EU presidency, which starts on January 1, 2025.

In a related development, on the same day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine quoted Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky as saying that the country plans to extend the basic military training period for Ukrainian soldiers.

"The plan will begin in October or November this year. We continue to focus on improving the quality of training at our military training centers," Syrsky was quoted as saying in a statement on the ministry's Facebook page.

According to the announcement, Commander-in-Chief Syrsky held a meeting on military training that included military leaders responsible for training, as well as commanders of combat brigades and heads of training centers.

During the meeting, they discussed issues affecting the quality of soldier training and came up with solutions, along with looking at ways to improve the training program.
