World oil prices continued to increase by more than 1 USD/barrel in the first trading session of the week due to concerns about supply disruptions. Domestically, all petroleum products are expected to increase in the price adjustment session on Thursday afternoon (August 28) this week.

On the morning of August 26, oil prices continued to increase, Brent oil increased by 1.07 USD/barrel, equivalent to 1.58%, to 68.8 USD/barrel; WTI oil increased by 1.14 USD/barrel, equivalent to 1.79%, to 64.8 USD/barrel.

The global benchmark Brent crude oil price is heading towards $70 a barrel as the US is trying to push for a peace deal to end the more than three-year war between Russia and Ukraine. Developments show that the peace talks seem to be slowing down. Analysts say that if the talks do not progress, Russia may face further sanctions, especially on Russian oil.

Elsewhere, Ukraine's attacks on Russian energy infrastructure pushed risks to the upside for oil prices.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump reiterated his warning that he would impose sanctions on Russia if there was no progress towards a peaceful solution in Ukraine in the next two weeks. Mr. Trump also warned that he could impose heavy tariffs on India because it continues to buy oil from Russia.

According to Reuters, Ukraine's military operations against Russia have caused a number of Russian nuclear power plants and oil refineries to catch fire, significantly affecting oil prices. However, observers say the risk of disruption to Russia's oil supply is not a cause for concern because the market is compensated by the supply from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+), which is being loosened and quite flexible, to add millions of barrels of oil to the market.

In the country, on the morning of August 26, speaking with Thanh Nien, a representative of a southern petroleum wholesaler said that world prices increased slightly last week and are continuing to increase. Therefore, domestic retail gasoline prices at the adjustment session this Thursday afternoon (August 28) may increase across the board. The estimated increase is around 500 VND/liter, not including the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund.

In another development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is sending letters to ministries, branches, localities; associations, petroleum companies, ethanol factories, vehicle manufacturing and trading enterprises; institutes and schools... to solicit comments on the draft circular regulating the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels in Vietnam./.
