Accordingly, the exam still includes three subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. Along with the entrance exam, the City continues to consider the admission plan for some special areas like the plan applied to Thanh An island commune last year.
In the pre-merger period, for many years, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong all held public 10th grade entrance exams with three subjects: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language. Keeping this exam stable next year is to facilitate schools in their work as well as reassure parents and students in their study orientation and school selection after the three localities merge.
It is expected that in October 2025, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will announce the exam structure, assessment requirements and competency table, thinking level of the entrance exam. This is the basis for schools and teachers to build teaching plans and guide students to review appropriately.
For many years, the way Ho Chi Minh City has created 10th grade entrance exams has been oriented towards testing students' ability to apply knowledge, applying subject knowledge to solve real-life problems, meeting the goals of the 2018 General Education Program. This orientation requires innovation in teaching and learning methods in schools, linking learning with practice, and applying theory to solving practical problems.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training 's Admission Regulations, which will be implemented from 2025, localities can choose the method of entrance examination, selection or combination to enroll students in grade 10. In particular, for the entrance examination method, the exam includes three subjects: Math, Literature and the third subject is an exam or a combination exam. This third exam subject is selected by the local Department of Education and Training from the subjects assessed by scores in the lower secondary education program (including Foreign Language 1, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, Information Technology), ensuring that no subject is selected for more than 3 consecutive years. The selection of the third exam subject will be announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year.
