The Long Son - Cai Mep Road Project is invested by the Regional Traffic Project Management Board and the Agricultural Sector of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The project has a starting point connecting to the road to Long Son Petroleum Industrial Park (Long Son commune), the end point intersects with Road 991B (Tan Phuoc ward) with a total length of more than 3.7km, the total investment is more than 1,188 billion VND from the budget of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province in the past.

The starting point of the Long Son - Cai Mep road project, the connection point with Long Son oil and gas industrial park, has been basically completed.

Some important items such as the Nhu Dien canal load-reducing floor, which had encountered difficulties due to the 110kV power line supplying Long Son Petrochemical Refinery, have now been resolved, and the main items have been completed. Package No. 51 also started construction in June 2025, currently reaching 80% of the ground treatment volume. Regarding site clearance, the project has a total reclaimed area of 15.5 hectares, involving 71 households and 2 organizations. Previously, the People's Committee of Phu My City issued a decision to pay 73 households and related organizations, thereby basically completing the site clearance stage, creating favorable conditions for construction.

A representative of the Regional Traffic Project Management Board and the Agricultural Sector of Ba Ria-Vung Tau said that the unit is focusing on urging contractors to increase construction forces and organize 3 shifts to make up for the progress. When completed, this route will connect two potential areas of Ho Chi Minh City, namely Long Son Petroleum Industrial Park and Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port system through a bridge over 400m long across the Rang River. In addition, the road will shorten the distance from the downstream of Cai Mep port to National Highway 51 from 25km to 8km.

The Long Son - Cai Mep route not only reduces traffic pressure on the existing Route 965 (the road connecting National Highway 51 to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster), but also expands the connection between the oil and gas industrial park and the deep-water seaport, creating conditions to promote logistics, trade and industry of Ho Chi Minh City and the entire Southern key economic region. This is considered one of the key infrastructure projects, contributing to improving competitiveness, attracting investment and sustainable socio-economic development.
