"Tang cau" (tying hair on top of the head) is a unique and sacred ritual of Black Thai women. This ritual symbolizes an important turning point when a girl officially gets married and is a clear sign of her marital status.

On a good day, usually the wedding day at the bride's house, the groom's family will send two women who have a happy, fulfilled life, understand the customs and are good at speaking to represent them to perform the "Tang Cau" ceremony for the bride. They are the ones who directly groom and tie her hair and have the responsibility to advise the bride on good and proper things before she goes to her husband's house.

The "Tang Cau" ritual carries profound core values of culture, beliefs, ethics and marriage concepts that have been preserved by the Thai people for many generations. The main purpose of maintaining and preserving this ritual is to preserve good traditional values, while educating the next generation about national culture, creating profound humanistic meaning, affirming the distinct identity of the Thai people in the community of Vietnamese ethnic groups.
