China suffered a humiliating defeat at the World Volleyball Championship.

In contrast to the brilliant performance of the two Asian teams competing on September 16, Iran and the Philippines, China caused great disappointment when they lost to Serbia at the 2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship.

Not only did China lose, but they also lost quickly to a Serbian men's volleyball team that was past its prime.

In the first match of Group H, Serbia surprisingly lost 0-3 to Czech Republic. That loss made Serbia's chances of advancing extremely slim because the group also included the extremely strong Brazil.

But despite not being at their peak, Serbia still proved to be too strong for China. They took the lead from the very first points, and then closed the first set with a 25-18 victory.

The second set was no different as the Chinese players were completely helpless against the tall Serbian wall. They lost 19-25 in this set.

China only really gave Serbia a hard time in game 3. The two teams were fiercely competing for points. But then at the decisive moment, the Chinese middle blockers made mistakes, and Serbia won dramatically 29-27 in game 3, closing out a 3-0 victory.

In the first match, China lost 1-3 to Brazil, and is the only team in Group H without a win after 2 matches.

However, in theory, China still has a chance to advance. If China wins the Czech Republic in the final round, and Serbia loses to Brazil, all China - Serbia - Czech Republic will have 1 win in that case, and the additional index will have to be considered to determine the winner.

However, after losing 0-3 to Serbia, China needs to beat Czech Republic by the same score to hope to qualify.
