In the 2025-2026 school year, Bui Thi Xuan High School will teach 11 school programs completely free of charge, including subjects such as Yoga, cooking, Gym, global citizenship, etc.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School, said that in the 2025-2026 school year, the school will implement a completely free two-session/day teaching model. The school will take advantage of existing facilities, mobilize a team of teachers, experts, athletes and university lecturers to jointly develop the curriculum for the second session.

Accordingly, 11 contents are deployed including: Korean, Global Citizenship, Fine Arts, Cooking, Yoga, Vovinam, Handicrafts, Life Skills, Watching Movies, Reading Books and MOS Informatics.

Students of all grades can register to choose from 3-4 subjects, which are arranged into a schedule of 2 sessions/day. 100% of grade 10 and 11 students participate, while grade 12 students will study in a club format due to being busy with final exams.

Of these 11 subjects, school teachers are in charge of 4 subjects: Cooking, Handicrafts, Vovinam and MOS Informatics. In addition, the Youth Union, homeroom teachers and the library coordinate to organize Reading and Film Watching sessions, while other subjects are handled by university lecturers and professional coaches.

“Because the 2-session/day program is free, teachers participate voluntarily. The school is calculating how to support teachers to some extent. Inviting lecturers and coaches from universities is also based on the spirit of socialization, mobilizing support from former students and parents,” Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu shared.

Parents and teachers join hands

Mr. Vo Ho An is a parent of an 11th grade student at the school, currently in charge of teaching Yoga to grades 10 and 11. With 10 lessons/week, he proactively arranges his outside work to teach students for free.

“I strongly agree with the policy of educational innovation in the second session. The school has a spacious gym with full equipment, I only contribute a little effort to help students improve their health and study better. Students are very excited and enthusiastic in each session,” Mr. Vo Ho An shared.

Bui Thi Xuan High School's cooking classroom is fully equipped with tools and equipment.

Ms. Ngo Thi Hong Ngoc, teacher in charge of career guidance activities, this year volunteered to teach Cooking and Handicrafts for free to grades 10 and 11.

She said the school has equipped a nutrition technology lab with full equipment such as induction cookers, pots, pans, knives, cutting boards, washing area, etc. to help teaching and learning take place smoothly.

“I chose to teach basic, familiar, easy-to-make dishes. The students prepare the ingredients themselves, and the cost is negligible. The students are very excited to learn self-service skills and how to cook for their families, and their parents are also very supportive,” Ms. Ngoc said.

In addition to the subjects that are "hard" included in the timetable, the school also maintains many free clubs such as Gym, AI, Dance sport... These clubs are not fixed in the timetable but have teachers and coaches who regularly instruct.

Mr. Ha Minh Duc, the school's technical equipment staff, is a Gymer with many years of experience, currently in charge of the Gym - where students are instructed to practice during recess and after school.

“I guide students on how to use the equipment properly to ensure safety and effectiveness. The gym is equipped with many specialized equipment, most of which is contributed by teachers and parents. The principal also gave the students a treadmill,” said Mr. Duc.

With its innovative approach, Bui Thi Xuan High School is becoming a bright spot in implementing the free 2-session/day program. Not only does it help students develop comprehensively in knowledge, skills and physical fitness, this model also demonstrates the spirit of “education for students, from the community and for the community”.
