Failed university entrance exam due to unexpected situations

Although the number of candidates registering for university admission is unlimited, there are still cases where candidates have missed the opportunity to be admitted according to their most desired wishes due to unexpected mistakes.

Lost chance of getting hired because of not checking email

Nguyen Thanh Hai, a student at Cao Ba Quat High School (Gia Lam District, Hanoi) missed the opportunity to be admitted to his favorite university when he forgot to check the email notification from the National Economics University reminding him of the deadline to re-enter his registration number and high school exam scores.

With the deadline to complete being 5:00 p.m. on July 20, 2024, on July 19, candidates who registered for admission by combining international certificates and high school exam results to the National Economics University and have not updated their information as required by the school will receive an email asking them to urgently enter their scores and affirming that if they do not enter their high school exam scores, they will not be considered for admission.

Due to being subjective about the deadline for registering his wishes on the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training from July 18 to 30, 2024, Nguyen Thanh Hai no longer had the opportunity to be admitted to this school through the early admission method even though he met the standard score for the Business Administration major when the school announced it on July 22.

This is not a rare case when in previous admission seasons, many candidates fell into regretful situations because the admission email from the university they registered for fell into the spam folder, even though they checked their email continuously during this time.

After her friend received the email of admission to the Diplomatic Academy, Nguyen Minh Huyen, a student at Bac Ninh Specialized High School (Bac Ninh province), is still waiting to receive an additional admission letter like her friend because both of them meet the same admission requirements.

After waiting for nearly a week without receiving any notification, Huyen called the academy's admissions consulting department and was informed that she had been accepted to the school but the deadline for submitting the admission confirmation documents had passed.

After wondering why she did not receive any notification, Huyen discovered that the admission confirmation letter was in her spam folder, but due to the candidate's subjective error, the school could not resolve this case of admission.

Important dates to remember

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), shared that in 2023, the Ministry received feedback about cases of early admission. Because they were confident, their families let them travel, until they knew they needed to register on the system, but the deadline had passed.

Therefore, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy emphasized that even though candidates have been admitted by early admission methods, they still have to register their wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system from July 18 to before 5:00 p.m. on July 30, 2024.

During this period, candidates can register an unlimited number of wishes, including early admission wishes and wishes using high school graduation exam results. After the above period, the system will close, and candidates will no longer be able to add or adjust their wishes.

Missing the opportunity to be admitted to university this year will cause difficulties for candidates who want to take the exam and be admitted next year.

Although candidates who are 12th grade students this year can still take the 2025 high school graduation exam to graduate or use the exam results to apply for university or college, Ms. Thuy advises candidates to try to make a wise choice to register for admission and be admitted this year.

The reason is that next year, the number of candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program will not be many and training institutions may not reserve many quotas for this group. They may have to face much greater competition than this year.

Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy added that, in recent years, most large training institutions have filled their enrollment quotas in the first round of admission, leaving few options for candidates to participate in additional admission. Therefore, registering for admission in the first round according to the schedule mentioned above is very important.
