From a random click to a PhD student in Malaysia

Mr. Tran Nam Trung is currently a PhD student in Business Administration at City University Malaysia. During his studies in Malaysia, Mr. Trung maintained a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0; had an international publication published by Springer and included in the LNNS series of monographs – Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems.

Before studying abroad, he was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Finance and Commerce, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH). His journey to Malaysia was by chance, from a mouse click.

Sharing with Tien Phong , Mr. Trung said that one evening at the end of 2023, while searching for research documents on ScienceDirect, he accidentally read an international scientific article by an Iranian author working in Malaysia. He was impressed with the very practical way they approached the problem, closely linked to the context and needs of the Asian region - something that is not always focused on in Western academic documents.

"My doctoral research journey began in such a coincidental way, with a click of the mouse and a meaningful and passionate academic journey was opened up," Trung shared.

From initial curiosity, Mr. Trung contacted and discussed with the author and expressed interest in research topics on AI and green economy . The author was open and enthusiastic in supporting, and at the same time introduced him to many in-depth, oriented research documents.

“After a period of interaction, we together formed an idea and built a plan to publish an international article in a journal of the prestigious Springer publishing house. It was during that cooperation process that my research proposal was highly appreciated by City University Malaysia. I was honored to receive a scholarship and an admission letter from the school,” said Mr. Trung.

Trusted by the Vietnamese Embassy, Mr. Tran Nam Trung is the representative of Vietnamese students in Malaysia, taking on the role of connecting the international student community, promoting academic and cultural exchange activities; supporting and accompanying international students during their studies and living in the host country. He acts as a bridge between students and the Embassy, Friendship Associations and supporting organizations, and universities in Malaysia.

Aspiration to accompany the nation in development

Mr. Tran Nam Trung said he was very honored and proud to attend the program where Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met the Vietnamese community in Malaysia (May 25); to be represented to share about his journey of studying and living in Malaysia, as well as some wishes from the student community.

According to Mr. Trung, Malaysia is a country with a strong and developing education system, modern infrastructure, and a friendly learning environment. International students have the opportunity to be exposed to new knowledge, technology and teaching methods; experience diverse cultures and international exchanges.

Through that, international students had the opportunity to introduce to international friends the image, culture, country and people of Vietnam.

In his speech, Mr. Trung said that each step of development of international students in a foreign country is not only a journey of learning, but also a deep concern about their own responsibility to the Fatherland.

Especially in the context of the fourth industrial revolution with great advances in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, green technology and renewable energy, Vietnamese international students are increasingly aware that they are not only learners, but also messengers of knowledge.

Studying and researching abroad is a valuable opportunity to access the quintessence of human knowledge, acquire advanced experiences and technologies, thereby contributing to the cause of innovation and development of science and technology of the country.

"In each of our minds, there is always an aspiration to accompany the nation on the journey of development: Innovation, creativity, acceleration, breakthrough, bringing the country firmly into the era of national growth, development, wealth, civilization, and prosperity," said Mr. Tran Nam Trung.

Mr. Trung once won the title of "5 Good Students" at the Central level and the January Star Award.
