Ms. Phan Thi Diep, residing in Thanh Tay hamlet, boldly borrowed capital and invested in a pig farm to escape poverty.

In previous years, when mentioning Thanh Tay hamlet (Dong Hoa commune), people often thought of a countryside with many difficulties, a high rate of poor households, and a difficult life for the people. However, today, the appearance of Thanh Tay hamlet has changed significantly, rural roads have been concreted, houses are spacious, and people's lives are better. In particular, Thanh Tay hamlet has risen to "eliminate" poor households, a remarkable achievement from the efforts of the entire political system and the self-reliance of each household.

Secretary of the Dong Hoa Commune Party Committee Le Ngoc Tung said: “In order to implement the policy of sustainable poverty reduction, the commune has directed hamlets, including Thanh Tay, to deploy many synchronous solutions. In addition to reviewing and understanding the circumstances of each poor and near-poor household to have appropriate support directions, we also focus on creating livelihoods, encouraging people to change farming practices, and boldly convert production models. The consensus and determination of the people are the key factors helping Thanh Tay hamlet achieve sustainable poverty reduction results.”

In addition to the support resources from the state, the locality also mobilizes organizations and philanthropists to contribute to building charity houses and providing preferential loans for poor households. The Farmers' Association of Dong Hoa commune coordinates to organize training courses on livestock and crop farming techniques; the Women's Association of the commune acts as a credit guarantee for female members to borrow capital for production; the Youth Union of the commune supports laborers to build roads and repair houses... Thanks to that, people have more conditions to do business and overcome difficulties.

The Provincial Farmers' Association and Dong Hoa commune started construction of a rural traffic bridge in Thanh Tay hamlet.

In the hamlet’s journey to escape poverty, many typical examples have become a driving force for people to follow. Notably, the story of Mrs. Phan Thi Diep, a poor household before 2023, with many children, little land for production, working for hire all year round, and an unstable life. Thanks to the government’s encouragement, Mrs. Diep boldly borrowed capital to invest in barns, starting with 5 pigs.

Initially, due to lack of experience in raising pigs, her herd often got sick, causing significant losses. Undaunted, Ms. Diep persevered in learning through training courses and sought out agricultural extension officers for technical guidance. Step by step, she gained experience in selecting breeds, renovating barns, and applying biosafety and hygiene procedures, thanks to which her herd of pigs developed well and had few diseases. Up to now, Ms. Diep has increased her herd size to nearly 20 pigs, selling 3-4 litters each year, earning hundreds of millions of dong. “In the past, we were poor, so we only dared to dream of having a solid roof. Now, thanks to raising pigs, my family has more than enough money and has built a spacious house. I think, if I work hard and know how to calculate, escaping poverty is completely possible,” Ms. Diep shared.

Mrs. Tran Thi Sang (residing in Thanh Tay hamlet) escaped poverty thanks to raising sea crabs.

Among the effective business models, a typical example is the crab farming model of Mrs. Tran Thi Sang, a household that used to have a difficult family situation. Previously, her family's life depended solely on her husband's job as a construction worker, and for many years they were among the poor households in the hamlet. Not resigned to her fate, Mrs. Sang researched and learned about the experience of raising sea crabs. With preferential loans from the commune government, she boldly invested in renovating ponds and releasing crab seeds. After many losses, with perseverance and hard work, she gradually accumulated experience, knowing how to choose seeds, care for them, and prevent diseases for crabs. Thanks to that, each year she harvests 2-3 crops, earning hundreds of millions of dong in profit, not only helping her family escape poverty, but also becoming well-off.

“At first, I was very worried, afraid of failure. But I thought, if I don’t try, I will always be poor, so I was determined to do it. Thanks to the capital and technical support, life is now more stable, and my children have the conditions to study,” Ms. Sang said happily...

Party Cell Secretary and Head of Thanh Tay Hamlet Nguyen Minh Tuan said: “The entire hamlet currently has 523 households. Thanks to the support in terms of capital, science and technology, along with the diligence and eagerness to learn of the people, by the end of 2024 Thanh Tay Hamlet will officially “eliminate” poor households. Previously, the hamlet had 14 poor households, many of whom only relied on subsidies, but now they are bold enough to borrow capital, invest in production, and know how to link up to consume products.”

Looking back on the past, it can be affirmed that the result of "erasing" poor households in Thanh Tay hamlet (Dong Hoa commune) is not only a number, but also an affirmation of the solidarity and will to rise of the people here. This success continues to add confidence to Dong Hoa commune to strive to successfully achieve socio -economic development goals, gradually improving the quality of people's lives.
