Stripped of People's Police title, arrested former Head of Traffic Police Department of Tra Vinh Police

On October 30, Tra Vinh Provincial Police announced that they had taken disciplinary action by stripping four people of their People's Public Security titles and prosecuted and detained them, while also applying a measure prohibiting one person from leaving their place of residence to investigate the act of abusing their position and power while performing official duties.

The defendants in detention include: Nguyen Van Chanh, former Head of the Traffic Police Department, who retired in May 2022; Tran Van Hen, former Captain of the Traffic Police Department; Nguyen Van Hoai Hao, former Deputy Captain of the Social Order Administrative Management Police Department; and Le Minh Hieu, former officer of the Traffic Police Department.

Defendant Ly Van Trong, former Deputy Head of the Mobile Police Department, was released on bail due to difficult family circumstances, as a relative suffered from a serious illness.

According to Tra Vinh Provincial Police, through inspection of vehicle registration process at the Traffic Police Department from 2016 to 2019, the authorities discovered 149 cases with suspicious signs of interfering with vehicle registration software, changing motorbike registration information to issue license plates contrary to regulations.

Through the investigation, Tra Vinh Provincial Police determined that five officers, including leaders, commanders and officers in charge of vehicle registration at the Traffic Police Department, violated the law by using personal vehicle registration accounts to swap license plates at the request of the people.
