Old age, higher enthusiasm

At nearly 70 years old, Mrs. Nam still works hard and contributes to the community.

Born in 1956, Mrs. Nam has held many positions in the locality. In 2010, after retiring, she still diligently participated in the labor and production movements and cultural and artistic activities of the hamlet and commune. In 2012, she was elected as Secretary of the La Bang hamlet Party Cell. At that time, the new rural construction movement also began to be "launched".

With the desire to contribute to building a prosperous village, she was the one who initiated the movement to build a new cultural house to serve as a place for people to live. But this idea quickly encountered difficulties: land had to be purchased, money had to be contributed, and people's lives were still full of difficulties.

Mrs. Vu Thi Nam recalls: Many times after the meeting, when I returned home, I kept thinking about ways to gain the trust and support of the people. At that time, I had to go from house to house, talk to each person, and encourage them that the village needed a place for meetings and activities. I also encouraged my own family and the party members in the cell to make the first contribution. Seeing the cadres and party members set an example, the people gradually followed suit.

Not stopping there, Mrs. Nam directly contacted the Labor Federation of Dai Tu district (old) to ask for support of 100 million VND, then mobilized more from benefactors and people. As a result, the cultural house project of more than 200 square meters, with a campus, fence, sports field, outdoor stage with a total value of more than 200 million VND was completed, becoming a highlight in the new rural construction of the whole Dai Tu district at that time.

By 2023, Ms. Nam was elected as President of the La Bang Commune Elderly Association, a position that she always considers a responsibility and pride to contribute more to the community.

With the efforts and enthusiasm of Mrs. Nam, the movement "Old age - Bright example" in La Bang commune has achieved positive results, increasingly affirming its mark. In the period of 2023-2024, the Association participated in mobilizing 270 households to donate land and mobilized people to contribute thousands of working days and money to widen the concrete road to 6m. In which, her family donated more than 200m2 of land and more than 100m of fence, worth tens of millions of VND.

As the President of the Commune Elderly Association, Mrs. Nam is always concerned about the spiritual life and health of its members. Thanks to her connections, hundreds of elderly people in the commune have received regular health check-ups, some have received eye surgery and lens replacement to help them see more clearly in the light of old age.

Along with that, art, health care, and sports clubs were established, creating useful playgrounds to help the elderly live happily, healthily, and usefully.

In the 2021-2025 term, the Commune Elderly Association has developed 225 new members, maintained a fund for elderly care worth hundreds of millions of VND, and ensured resources to support members in difficult times. Ms. Nam also closely coordinated with departments, branches, and organizations to make the work of caring for the elderly more practical.

Comrade Dang Thanh Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of La Bang Commune, commented: Mrs. Nam is a typical example in the movement "Old age - Bright example" in the locality. Not only responsible and enthusiastic, she also has great prestige, knows how to listen and persuade, thanks to which many seemingly difficult tasks are done more easily.
